RESMED S9 Autoset to RESMED VPAPS Easy Breathe

Post by Pualani » Thu Feb 08, 2018 10:29 pm

My S9 is still working but in the middle of the night it makes a terrible screeching noise. Yes, it has fallen off the nightstand a couple of times. I got out my husband's little used VPAP S and trying to see if I can use it. I did figure out how to put it in CPAP mode but if I understand correctly, the pressure will be constant and not "auto set" as the S9 does.

My S9 max pressure is set on7.8 and minimum pressure on 4. I know from seeing the print out from the card that the pressure does go up during the night. Do you think I can make the VPAP S work for me? Or do I just need to get a new machine?

what is the 95% pressure?
You need this data from the apap and I would put up a sleepyhead chart.

for tonight, I would do a factory reset and get everything back to default. Is the VPAP a S9 too?
ipap 7
epap 5
rise time 300

It does not say S9 on it - just VPAP S

I believe sleepyhead does not work on an apple computer, which is what I have.

95 percent pressure? Where would that be shown?

Thanks for the info.

You pressure is very low, you could even have ipap 8 and epap 6 and it not be an issue. 7 was just a very conservative number with your max being on 7.8 and to start you off.

sleepyhead will run on apple.

not recommended but could be enough, have a look on your s9 apap, it will tell you the pressure you are, I'd use the 30 day pressure number and add 0.4cm to it.

does the vpap look the same as the s9 apap you have?
or does it look like this.

I would use sleepyhead, if it looks the same as the s9 you are using, it will have the same sd card and work in sleepyhead. If it's the older s8, as above, it won't work on sleepyhead, but the screen will give the basic ahi, that can help with final adjustment.

The S9 auto adjusting machines will show a 95% pressure number in the Sleep Report but you have to know where to look.

See the manual for how to find it...and I think you have to turn on a special setting in the clinical menu to be able to see the data on the LCD screen.
Sleep Quality has to be set to "On"...page 15
https://forum.apneuvereniging.nl/pdf/S9 ... manual.pdf

Once you get the 95% pressure setting figured out you can either use cpap mode on the VPAP S and set it for that 95% number or switch over to bilevel fixed mode and maybe use min EPAP at 1 cm below the 95% number and the IPAP at 1 cm above the 95% number...or you can use a little more difference if it is more comfortable. It will get you close enough.
I got a machine a while back that didn't auto adjust...I was able to use fixed bilevel well enough just by getting the pressure close like what I just explained here except I actually preferred a bigger difference than 1 cm above and below thing. You can do it and make it work several different ways.

Wow! Thank you for the link to manual. The manual that came with mine is much much simpler. I am going to have to study all the replies and try to digest the info.

My two machines look identical- not like the linked picture.

again, I am going to have to study all this info in an attempt to understand it.

Yes, I have mild sleep apnea but definitely need the CPAP. I wake up gasping for air, or I wake in the morning with extreme headache if I don't use the CPAP.

You will be fine with the s9, same looking vpap s as the s9 apap. They both use sleepyhead. I would get some sleepyhead charts up. You only use low pressure and won't need a lot of things the S can do, but it will be a solid machine for you.
