I'm not sure, but certainly pressure to high or too low can cause this!

Did you hyperventilate before CPAP?

I'm using a nasal mask DreamWear and CPAP DreamStation auto.
My symptoms are vertigo, paresthesias (tingling or numbness), palpitations, shortness of breath, dysphagia, anxiety, drowsiness.

What are your pressures on machine?

If it were me though with those symptoms I would go see a Dr. Those could be symptoms of some pretty serious stuff.

Yes. I have a medical consultation tomorrow;
Pressures are at 8 and 16.
But really the symptoms are hyperventilation caused by the use of CPAP.
These symptoms started after use.
I have stopped using CPAP and the symptoms will disappear.
But I need to use CPAP for sleep apnea.
This is the big problem.

The symptom I don't think is related to hyperventilating is vertigo.

You may need a different more specialized machine if these issues are from the CPAP itself.

Anyway you could use sleepyhead software to pull data off SD card and show us what your data looks like?

I hate to be the person that throws cold water on your parade.. Cpap's do not cause hyperventilation, instead your breathing too quickly with short breathe. The problem is within you. You may be panicking in your sleep. You may need a psychologist or one of the many medicines for panic attacks. I would not blame the machine but would seek medical advice to solve the problem rather than blaming the machine.

There's a setting on your machine called Flex...which is the exhale relief setting.
Can you tell me which setting you are using (CFlex or AFlex) and at what number...1, 2 or 3?
When you experience these feelings of hyperventilation is it immediate when you first turn the machine on or is it you wake up in the middle of the night with the symptoms?

You need to get the available software to see what the pressures are doing in the middle of the night.

SleepyHead will work just fine with the DreamStation Auto CPAP machine.

It may be the algorithm of your particular machine.

I used a Philips Respironics (earlier model) for several years and I always felt that I had to breathe a certain way with it. It felt sort of forced (it wasn't really forced) but it seemed to always rush my breathing.

I have a ResMed machine now and the difference is night and day. The algorithm is very gentle and seems to keep pace with ME instead of making me keep pace with it. I find it so much more comfortable, breathing-wise.

If you can give us your data from Sleepyhead, we might be able to spot an easily-solved problem. Sleepyhead is the tool that most of the regulars here use to keep their CPAP therapy optimized.

Do you have the correct mask type setting selected (nasal, pillows, full face, etc)? Also, is the AB (anti bacterial) filter setting turned OFF?

If you go to the doctor to check out your symptoms and they tell you there is nothing physically wrong, the answer probably be anxiety. been there, done that, but no t-shirt. i got the pills and refills that helped it go away.

More than likely, it's a configuration problem with your machine.......some pressure setting too low or too high.
It can take some time to get all the settings tweaked.

Try using your machine and mask when you're watching TV in your recliner ( if you have either/both ).
The sooner you become familiar with your equipment (settings), monitoring and taking control of your therapy, the sooner things will improve.

Don't forget to remove the card from the machine and take it with you to your appointment! The doctor needs it to analyze what's going on.

Also, I found the lower pressure upon exhaling annoying, so I disabled it. Maybe you need to disable it, maybe you need more of it, maybe it's irrelevant.
