It happens with all "new" masks...we have high hopes that "this is the one" and for some people it will be but for others it won't be.
It's the life of a mask in general. Some people will love it and some people will hate it.
Now I am not looking for "the one" because I am quite satisfied with my current nasal pillow mask and I hold no illusions about my ever wanting to use a full face mask as my primary mask...it ain't going to happen but I do like to try new things just to learn about new products and that's why I will try it.

Yeah, it IS funny, especially when you are finally doing okay with your current mask. Ooh, potential expensive sleepless nights and discomfort! I always figure I can do better! I still have persistent tickling on my nose under the mask so I would love to get rid of that.

I have not yet had any need of a FFM, like Pugsy I'm quite content with my nasal pillows, but I've been intrigued by the Amara View since seeing it in action at work (nursing home, one of my residents uses it). And this looks like the best of both worlds, rerouting the hose overhead just like my jerry-rigged set-up. I may save up and buy it just for the opportunity to *try* it.

I use a FF mask when I have a cold. I'm not positive that would work for a cold, because the nasal part is still against what would be a drippy nose. But I'd sure like to give it a try. The Mirage Quattro I use is leaky and puts pressure on my teeth and jaw when I sleep on my side.

My DME provider (MedLogic) says they have it as they are a Test Company doing a limited launch and it will probably be released in a couple of months. It is called the Dreamwear FFM. They are advertising it on facebook as a "game changer".

Some DMEs in some areas will have access to the testing and maybe even demo models later if not now.
If some of you are interested...alert your DME and tell them you want to be part of the testing and/or demo trials.
You might get lucky. They might be part of the testing and/or Demo program.

I won't bother...my DME is the LAST to get anything and since there current contract is with ResMed machines they won't likely be a testing DME. That's usually reserved for DMEs with large accounts that stock Respironics machines. Or maybe signed up to be part of a testing program to get first shot at something new.

The way new masks work at this stage...they are supplied around the country for testing....and then returned like one person mentioned for evaluation of mask wear, etc. Then more will be sent out more as demo models for further testing.
Finally general release for sale to the public.
As far as time frame...you guys have to understand that what we think of as "soon" isn't necessarily what these mask manufacturers think of as "soon".
Soon to me is 2 weeks..  Soon to a mask manufacturer might mean 6 months or even longer.

So any of you that are really interested...call up your DME and ask. All they can do is say "what the heck are you talking about"...like the response I would likely get from my DME right now....but just in case I am wrong I will call them up anyway.
Demo trialing....it's a demo and doesn't/shouldn't count towards insurance allowance and it is free if it is a real demo.
When you are part of a test market...it's a free mask. The DME didn't pay for it and you shouldn't either.

Okay...I called up my DME guy...and as expected his comment was "how do you know about these new masks before we do" and I just told him it's because it's what I do and do very well. He had no idea what I was talking about until I explained it.
He's going to check with his Respironics rep and see if they can get me a demo in exchange for an honest review.
They may or may not be in the "demo" phase of the new product development....so it may be a while before demos are sent out for the general public type of people demos to try. They may still be in the "testing" phase.

So unknown time frame IF (big if) I can even get my grubby little paws on one but will let you all know if I do.

They are out there in limited status so you might be able to get one.

My DME told me today when I picked up my new machine that she will have a Dreamwear FFM for me on Thursday. They knew that I was one of the trial evaluators and wanted one when they got them in.

I found one place that had the head gear for the new mask, but not the mask. I am looking forward to trying one.

My current Dreamwear with nasal gel pillows works quite well for me unless I have nasal congestion. While I have never considered a FFM this might be worth looking at. I am a mouth breather but maintain control by the use of a cervical collar, the tongue suck method and sleeping on my side. This doesn't always work and I do have some mouth breathing episodes. Maybe this mask might help with this situation. When it comes out I'll certainly buy one to try - no mask trials here in Australia unfortunately.

After reading all the comments thus far, I think one true value of this development is - contingent on the new mask assembly being retrofittable with existing DreamWear frames - continuity for existing users. As suggested by others, it provides these users with a relatively low-cost means of accommodating the need for a temporary change of mask to deal with nasal congestion or other issues. Instead of needing a complete backup mask, all one would need would be a backup pillow set.

I was given an Amara View after my last sleep study and did like it.

I was extremely light and non-intrusive.

But I had to fiddle with it WAY too much to get the leaks stopped. But once I dialed it in, it was great.

My sleep Doc keeps suggesting a FFM, and has actually prescribed the Quattro and Quattro FX, but I absolutely could NOT get them to stop leaking.

I always end up going back to my trusty Mirage Activa. Been using it for 12 years now and it seems to work for me.

But I do have a problem with mouth breathing sometime, and hence, the reason my Sleep Doc suggests a FFM.

Maybe I'll give the Amara View another shot, or see if I can try one of these new Dreamwear FFM.

Isn't it a little sad that we are all excited, and can't wait to try a new CPAP mask? LOL

It feels kind of like when being a child, and daddy brought home a toy you weren't expecting. :)
No offense, but this forum is pretty much filled with CPAP nerds. ;-)

Kind of like the Big Bang Theory guys when a new version of the original Star Wars comes with an extra 17 seconds of footage.

It's a Demo...
I will try to get over there this afternoon and pick it up and see if they got the right one.
