Sounds like you are having the right tests done. Best recommendation is to wait for results. At this point no way to tell if it's an infection or possibly an allergic reaction.

It's just possible you had the mask fitted too tight - happens all the time - and that it irritated your skin. It's possible you were given a dirty mask, but not necessarily if your skin is sensitive (and mask was too tight). There are many masks out there to try, and many fixes for ones that fit well (not overtightened tho') but have one problem area, usually nasal bridge. I think you just got unlucky with a sloppy DME, but doubt if you have MRSA etc.

Perhaps it's SHINGLES.

Have you ever had chicken pox? If so, you can likely get a Shingles outbreak due to stress.

By the way, if it's a plain old Staph infection, take the antibiotics and be VERY careful Staph infections can be very dangerous.
