Do I need to buy a separate oximeter?

Post by Amany55 » Sun Jan 21, 2018 6:25 am

Good morning,
I ordered AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ For Her CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier. As I understand it, I can read it’s reports using sleepyhead on my Mac. My question is if it measures my O2 level or should I buy a separate one.i read your previous conversations and some mentioned the contec oximeter. Is it read by sleepyhead too? I am new on Cpap and still need a lot of information
Thank you.

I'd wait till you get some charts up. You may be a case of simple apnea, easily resolved.
If you like, you can get the recording spo2 meter, cheap enough

Your AirSense10 APAP does not include an oximeter. You can get one for it, along with the module that plugs into the machine, but it's between 800 to 1K for the complete kit.

As the other poster said,...wait until you have some history, or buy a cheapy if you want to experiment.

Good Answer!

Will add it's only a tool in the box, I got mine to check a question I had about my overall lung function and getting weak moving. It showed O2 was not part of my problem. I thought it was heart problems and it was and non repairable.

I just used it to clear up my guess, it did. Most people get them, and just worry unnecessarily over things that are beyond their control, everyone is different, numbers vary between each of us. How the body works isn't set in stone. A O2 meter reacts slowly to changes in Blood O2, it's more of for averages than instant gratification. For Sleep Apnea, just a tool, sometimes just a toy.

Something to obcess over, when you should be making your treatment work. Jim

Some insurance plans will pay for an overnight trial with an oximeter--
under certain circumstances. (((Probably not for "curiosity's" sake.)))
If you buy one, select one compatible with Sleepyhead, and a recording function.

What is the best separate recording oximeter with SleepHead? Are there newer and less expensive models out now?

I got Contec CMS 50+D from Amazon. It should be identified by sleepyhead; however, as I am using Mac, it didn’t.
