Settings on BiPap Phillips Machine and IBS symptoms

Post by Southerngent1 » Sat Jan 20, 2018 9:05 pm

Recently, I have had some severe congestion problems immediately after waking up in the morning. However, this morning I had almost none. It appears that my machine's water tank might had totally evaporated overnight.

Usually, I have it set on 2. Would the 1 setting allow less humid air? Does anyone here use no water in their water tank?

Also, I have had some pretty severe IBS symptoms the past 3-4 for months. Today was the first day in probably three months that I had none. The only difference was, again, possibly not having any water in my water tank. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

You had air leaks that stopped air pressure pushing past the valve at the top of the stomach?

Yes. Lower setting reduces the amount of moisture added to the air by the humidifier.

Some people don't use water in the tank. Some people use water in the tank but set the humidifier to 0 or Off so it only picks up minimal moisture. We call it passover humidity.
Some people don't even attach a humidifier...so no water or anything...but for some people that humidifier muffles the machine noise so they might attach the humidifier but not put water in the water chamber.

With a setting of 2 (which is minimal humidity) I would first wonder why so much water is being used. How many hours of use are we talking about here and which brand machine and are you using a heated hose or not. I am assuming that the chamber was full at the beginning of the night.
What is the ambient humidity of your household?
What pressure are you using?

Several things can affect water consumption besides just the setting itself.
Pressure
Leaks
Ambient humidity
Heated hose or not
Brand and model of machine

Now is your IBS symptom reduction related to humidity???? Unknown but you could try lowering the setting or turning it off or using empty tank and see.

My machine is a BiPap Phillips System One machine.

Yesterday, for the first day in several months, I experienced almost no IBS symptoms. I have been trying to determine what was the difference in my day. So far, I have been able to detect the following:

1. The night before my day with no IBS, I consumed only about 8 ounces of a carbonated beverage (as opposed to about 16 ounces in a typical evening). I also had less alcohol consumption.
2. When I woke up the same morning as my not having the IBS symptoms the water tank to my machine was completely dry. I had been traveling the previous day to I may have not had any water in the tank the entire night before or very little since it was completely dry. My machine was set on 2. Again, I did not check the water tank prior to going to bed so it may have already been dry or may have become dry during the night.
3. I also noticed not having the same amount of significant sinus issues the morning after having little to no water in the tank.

I appreciate continued thoughts.

I would think the reduction in alcohol and carbonated beverages is the key, not humidity, as IBS is a gastrointestinal problem and not a respiratory one. Yes, I have IBS so I understand the problem. I also keep my humidity at 5, the max, nightly.

I have IBS as well, after exhaustive elimination diets, expecting things etc. I've confirmed that a list of things. You might need to go that way too. I was having a horrible time figuring out everything on the list until I went on CPAP... i think because my brain wasn't really working right... I couldn't keep anything in my head.

Turned out these things set my IBS off:
Some wheat (something they spray on the crops maybe)
Milk,
almonds,
eggs,
raw carrots!,
sunflower seeds,
unfermented cheeses (like cottage cheese, or Indian cheese)
butter,
certain food dyes,
RED WINE,
red grapes.

Fun right?
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"
