After tomorrow night’s titration study, I’ll be getting a new machine. My doctor likes the ResMed line, but will listen to my thoughts on other options, so I’m asking anyone on ASV out there to let me know what you like/don’t like about your machines and why.
My pros/cons so far are
A ResMed will let me make use of the parts (filters, hoses, etc) that I already have for my AirSense 10. I assume it will be similar in daily use and the controls will be similar. What annoys me most, tho, is that the tank has to be completely removed for refilling every day, and I have limited space to do this. I know this sounds petty, but it’s a chore I don’t like to do.
Phillips Respironics - first, does anyone at all have this? Is it real? The water tank fills from the top without removal, so, yay, and I have used another PR so it won’t be completely unfamiliar. But I don’t know if it’s bigger and harder to travel with or not, and I would need to stock up on extras. That’s all assuming that my doctor would approve it, and if my DME will supply it.
BTW, I’m brand new on Medicare this month, so I will probably have to use a new DME that I haven’t worked with before. Fingers crossed that it isn’t Apria.
Also, is it true that I’ll need to use a nasal or FF mask with ASV? Thanks.

Re: ASV Titration tomorrow: Machine Advice?
Years ago it was true that people needed full face masks with ASV machines but today that is no longer true.
You can use any mask you wish even a nasal pillow mask with ASV and don't let anyone tell you that you can't because of the pressures or anything like that.
I have actually used both brands of ASV machines....ResMed and Respironics and while not the current models close enough because the way they work didn't change with the newer models. Just the cosmetic packaging changed.
I actually suggest that you target the ResMed AirCurce 10 ASV. It's an excellent machine and you have spare equipment like hoses and filters that will work with it and I actually think the algorithm is maybe a bit "better" for most people.
And the DreamStation ASV model is so new that the only software available that will work with it is Encore Pro.
The ResMed AirCurve ASV works well with SleepyHead and the DreamStation doesn't.
Encore Pro...big huge PITA software that is often hard to install (Windows only) with high install rate even on Windows and not very user friendly if it is installed and the DreamStation data available on the LCD screen is extremely limited and not all that useful.
Yes, I know it is a bit annoying to have to remove the water chamber to fill it but with time it will become not that big of a deal.
The advantages to the ResMed outweigh this one slight annoyance.
My space is extremely limited too...I pull it out and just set things on the bed to fill the chamber.

Re: ASV Titration tomorrow: Machine Advice?
Which space consideration matters most? The space required to fill the tank (only temporary) or real estate for the machine & Humidifier (full time)?
The AirCurve/AirSense AFAIK, are about half the size of the PR DreamStation with humidifier. In either case, you will still have to remove the tank to empty it and wash/rinse it out.

Exactly what I needed to know, thanks to both of you. You even answered questions I forgot to ask, like data retrieval options. The ResMed it is.

Go to this web site and see which DMEs are on the Medicare list for where you live: https://www.medicare.gov/supplierdirectory/search.html
If you live in an area that requires competitive bidding, you will find a list of the approved suppliers. When my DME lost their Medicare contract, I looked at the list and down toward the bottom the list, I found one that is an on line supplier that Medicare approved for my area. When we ordered my wife's machine, their local representative brought the machine to the house and showed us how to set it up and use it. We both knew how to do it, but he was required to do the whole thing. We order our supplies on line and they are delivered to the house.

Re: ASV Titration tomorrow: Machine Advice?
Thanks, Okie BiPAP. The list is hard to navigate, since none of them show ASV machines in their list of what they carry, but I guess I will get to know Medicare in time. I would love an online DME, but I didn’t see one on the list. I did see DME’s in numerous states, since northern New Jersey, where I am, is reasonably close to them all. Maybe the last one on the list — in Washington, which is not close at all — is online. I’ll check again.

Re: ASV Titration tomorrow: Machine Advice?
I do the unthinkable. I use reverse osmosis water in my PRS1 960 and my Resmed S9 Autoset before that.
I always simply remove the water chamber and take it to the sink and fill it. No space or storage required, unless I choose to put it down. Thankfully I have room on my humongous headboard and kitchen counter to put it down if I choose.
My old S9 was quiter but that means nothing comparing current machines.
