Problem With Nasal Swelling Related To Certain Foods

Post by eteddybair » Sat Jan 13, 2018 1:36 pm

I was just wondering if anyone besides me experiences nasal swelling at night while sleeping after eating certain foods. I have come to realize that I have to avoid all dairy products, peanuts, natural flavors found in so many foods, certain organic soups that are made in factories that process soy products, tree nuts, etc., anything containing wheat, and canned pumpkin (but not the organic pumpkin). My dietary choices are very limited, however, I have learned (the hard way) what foods to avoid so that I can breathe and sleep well. Sometimes I have to use "Afrin." Has anyone experienced similar problems and how do you handle it?

Don't use Afrin - it's addictive, loses effectiveness quickly and needs more to work, but backfires. Try Flonase or some other (salt based) rinse prior to bedtime. I'd also want to check things out with an allergist before deciding that's really the problem (and not eg your nose or other factors).

Yes, see an allergist.

Also as you find out what foods cause that, don't continue to eat them. Jim

How high do you have your heated humidity set to? (assuming you're using heated humidity)
I'm not saying you don't have allergies, but it's been known for a long time that high humidity settings can cause nasal congestion.
If it is set to higher levels, try turning it down or off and see if that helps.

I get random nasal swelling that I often wonder if it's from something I eat. I have my humidity dialed in. Do you have a process you go through to determine what foods cause problems? Are the foods sensitivities obvious for you or are they fleeting and hard to figure out? Could use some advise on this subject.
