High Air Leaks

Post by Tyus » Wed Jan 10, 2018 2:20 pm

I am currently using the dreamwear mask and I am having issues getting a good mask seal. No matter how I adjust my mask I always have high air leaks according to the ResMed myAir App. I have also tried different size nasal pillows. Should I be concerned with air leaks if my AHI is low? Also, can anyone recommend a good dreamwear replacement?

What have you done to make sure that you aren't leaking out the mouth....mouth breathing?
Ruling out mouth breathing is important because if you are mouth breathing and you just change to another nasal mask it's not going to fix the leaks.

Just how big are the leaks? If they are deep into large leak territory the machine may be missing events..so that nice low AHI might be the machine just doesn't know that something is happening. If just barely into large leak territory the machine is still usually fairly accurate.

You would need to use available software to see just how big or deep into large leak territory you are going.

So you need to first rule out mouth breathing as a possible cause of the leak and you need to evaluate just how deep into large leak territory the leaks are going and for how long they are staying in large leak territory.

Thanks for the suggestions Pugsy. I do wake up sometimes with severe dry mouth so the leaks could be coming from mouth breathing.
