Cold house and CPAP
Cold house and CPAP
Ok, here's the situation. Just got back from Florida to the icebox currently known as New Jersey. My parents in their infinate wisdom to save a few bucks the heat was turned down to 60. So 4 hours later its at 64 degrees. I have a hose cozy but I'm wondering if that's enough. Also the cpap was in the car for a half hour 45 minutes in 15 degree weather. Ill assume its fine now its been in close to room temperature conditions for awhile now

I keep my thermostat at 62 degrees. 64 degrees is tropical. If the machine is at room temperature you should be fine.

Just to clarify my concern was rainout not that it would break the machine

Re: Cold house and CPAP
In this situation I would set my humidifier to a slightly lower temperature.
In case there is rain out, Have you looked at how to change this so it can be done in the middle of the night half asleep?

So it appears that my unit doesn't let you change the actual temperature but you can change the humidity setting. Here is the settings with the minimum temp to avoid rainout settings.

Unless you have a Climateline hose, you cannot change the temperature...only the humidity setting. By the time you get these answers, you home should be back to normal heat. I don't understand your problem?Jerseyguy wrote:So it appears that my unit doesn't let you change the actual temperature but you can change the humidity setting. It seems to me that the OP is fairly new to cpap, so is just wanting to be reassured about this situation. You are probably fine to use it now.
As the OP gets used to cpap, he won't be asking things like this. Bear with him!

Re: Cold house and CPAP
With a heated hose, I fine that keeping the machine in auto heat/humid setting works quite well......I to for a while tried to adjust setting, but kept getting rainout....in auto setting, no worries and my room temp is at 62

Re: Cold house and CPAP
Whoops, I should have used the word lower setting vs temperature to avoid rainout.
I'm glad to see you reading the manual. Did you end up making a change and how did it go last night with regards to rainout?

Re: Cold house and CPAP
Well I did get a bit of rainout. It didn't wake me up but there was condensation on the plastic part of the mask pillow so I guess so. My AHI raised from under 1 to 1.7 as well. For the record, yes I'm fairly new to CPAP and I also have generalized anxiety so I apologise to anyone I annoyed but request you have some patience. Turns out my window was just a hair open which could have cooled down the room. I fixed it hope that tonight is differentfreetimecreations wrote:Whoops, I should have used the word lower setting vs temperature to avoid rainout.

Re: Cold house and CPAP
Is keeping a cold house some kind of masochistic competition?

Re: Cold house and CPAP
My arthritis bothers me no matter what the temperature is. My wife grew up in a house with a wood burning stove for heat, so the house would get cold at night. She likes the bedroom to be rather cool at night so she can snuggle down under the covers with just her face sticking out. Since she prefers to have a cool room, I keep it rather cool this time of year. It's so cool, our dog prefers to sleep in the living room which is warmer.

Re: Cold house and CPAP
We set our thermostat for 55 at night. It doesn't always go down that low even when it's in the low 30's outside, but sometimes it does. I never get rainout in the tube (except for the time I turned the humidity WAY up!) but sometimes the nasal pillows get uncomfortably damp. I have a DreamWear now, so it's not really a nasal pillow. Last night was the first night I've noticed it feeling damp, and it wasn't that cold last night, but raining pretty hard so a lot of ambient humidity.

Re: Cold house and CPAP
I LIVE in Florida and still had to have a heated hose for rainout.
I say just spend the $20 on Amazon and never worry about it again.
Without it, or until you get one, sleep with the hose under the blankets (use your body heat) and keep the machine lower than your head.
