Any issues with use of Carbonated Beverages prior to sleepin
I have used the Phillips Bipap machine for one year now. Over the past 3-4 months, I have experienced considerable weight gain and stomach bloating. I know that over the same period I have developed a routine of after dinner to late night Sprites. The next day is followed with stomach gas and other unpleasant experiences. By early afternoon the problems subside.
Any opinions or information would be greatly appreciated. I have already had stool samples and blood tests done and none point to any explanation of the issues.
Thanks.

What about weight gain? And what is the recommended time in the evening to discontinue the use of carbonated beverages? One hour before sleep? Two hours before sleep?
Re: Any issues with use of Carbonated Beverages prior to sleepin
May I ask what you gathered from the other person's reply? Drinking soda prior to bed will not make you gain weight or cause any other issues just because of using CPAP. I'm new to this to be honest but the previous post didn't really answer your question at all IMOSoutherngent1 wrote:What about weight gain? And what would you say the "issues with use of carbonated beverages before bed" would be? Gas and Farting are what he had already identified.USMCVet wrote:May I ask what you gathered from the other person's reply? You did not make it clear at all if just the soda was the issue or if Soda and Bipap was the problem. You may be a pro but new members here asking for help are not. You do know the saying about assuming right?LSAT wrote:And what would you say the "issues with use of carbonated beverages before bed" would be? Can you not just say no to sugared soft drinks? 12 oz. of Sprite contains 33 grams of sugar - obesity, diabetes, oral disease, sleep apnea, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, ...Southerngent1 wrote:What about weight gain? This doctor feels carbonated beverages at any time is not good. I follow her dietary recommendations for GERD. They have helped me a lot.

How much weight have you gained? How much Sprite are you drinking? Any more or less exercise during this time? Have you only gained weight since you started drinking Sprite? Has your diet changed where you might retain more water? Any new medication?

Correct, you are bloating with gas, Carbonated drinks contain Gas.... Many contain Caffeine and sugar. All these things are counter productive to good sleep and weight control. I think I'd drink water instead. JimLSAT wrote:You have correctly identified the issuesSoutherngent1 wrote:I have used the Phillips Bipap machine for one year now. I specified "Sprite" so that everyone here would know that caffeine is not an issue.
In part, I was hoping to know if drinking a carbonated beverage (could be diet something) made a difference or not.

Thank you for clarifying. I drink soda sometimes up to bedtime. No increased weight gain or other issues associated with it.Southerngent1 wrote:I specified "Sprite" so that everyone here would know that caffeine is not an issue.

And we said Yes! half a bottle of Coke blows me up like a balloon, instantly, adding that to XPAP @ my 14.5 CM would be even worse, even with my night time Pepcid. JimSoutherngent1 wrote:I specified "Sprite" so that everyone here would know that caffeine is not an issue.

Re: Any issues with use of Carbonated Beverages prior to sleepin
I drink 3 or 4 sometimes carbonated drinks sometimes before bed. It has made zero difference to me since starting APAP. If someone suggests otherwise without experiencing themselves take it with a grain of salt. Gas itself won't make you gain weight. I don't care what "salty dog" that hasn't experienced what your going through says.Southerngent1 wrote:I specified "Sprite" so that everyone here would know that caffeine is not an issue.

We eat dinner late, as my husband works an hour away. I usually have a coke zero with dinner. I am overweight, but I don't have any problems with gas or bloating, either before or after BiPAP.
