Hello from india

Post by earthian » Thu Dec 14, 2017 1:59 am

Hello:
My apologies if there is a separate sub forum to post introductions. I couldn't find it and if one exists, please move my post to the appropriate sub forum.
Okay folks, having got that out of the way, i live on the Western part of India and after more than 35 years working in the Corporate jungle , now spend my time visiting actual jungles and viewing wildlife- though for the life of me do not understand as to why we call them 'wild'- when we humans have mastered that dubious distinction.
I had bad apnea and i just couldn't drive 40 kms before i got drowsy. Things were pretty bad at the workplace too, with high stress levels and acidity and irritability. i have become a new man since i started using a CPAP machine ( have done so since the past 4 years now)-so much so that i chucked my job and now spend time roaming around India in my car with my wife as well as travelling the World. No more drowsiness, no more high stress- though acidity remains (more due to my uncontrollable binges, i am afraid)
I started with a Respironics System One and now since a year use the Dream Station. I don't like the new mask and have reverted to my old mask. The only problem i anticipate is that the gel in the old one is wearing out and new ones (old masks) are not available. i would like to understand how to read the 'sleepyhead' reports and am sure there would be enough content on that here.
I make it a point to explain about sleep apnea and the resultant better life after one uses the CPAP to every one i feel is a likely candidate. I only wish i had started this 20 years back!

Welcome to the forum.

To help you understand what you see in SleepyHead you might start with a little tutorial that I did some time back.
viewtopic/t88983/Pugsys-PointersSleepyH ... Hints.html

and RobySue's tutorial where she covered some stuff that I didn't. She has the writing skills that I wish I had but I don't...so you get my rambling mess in my tutorial.

Which mask is it that you wish to continue using and are concerned that it might become unavailable or has become unavailable in your area?
Maybe we can help you get a supply of that mask save up since you like it better. You mentioned "gel" but there are several masks out there that use gel so I don't know exactly which mask you are using.

Oh...don't worry about where your intro was posted...we don't have sub forums here so it's not a big deal. I found that most people didn't ever use sub forums all that correctly anyway.

This mask?

It is an oldie for sure but still available here in the US. Is it not available where you live or were you just concerned that due to its age it might be discontinued?
Various replacement parts are still available and often it's just the cushion that needs to be replaced.

cpap.com can't ship Respironics parts outside the US but there are ways of getting stuff to you if you really need and want them and can't get them where you live.

OT; how often do you replace filters?

Post by hobbs » Fri Dec 15, 2017 5:55 pm

I spent (2-1/2) weeks in India last December and the filter on my S10 turned coal black! Had a great time!
