Odd Spike in AHI

Post by jsielke » Sat Dec 09, 2017 8:53 am

I have been going along quite happy, with AHI running .7 up to 3.2. Night before last, though, had ahi 10.79. I had not changed anything. With the same setup, last night AHI was back to 2.11. No major leaks either night. Wonder why such a sudden spike?

If you want to try the Eclipse mask and want a special promo code to get a little off the price...send me a private message.

Still the AHI was approx 2/3 obstructive in nature.
Maybe positional (maybe on your back more than usual)...maybe positional with REM stage thrown in for a double whammy.

Well, I nev er sleep on my back. I do switch sides, maybe 3-4 times a night. AHI since that spike has been back to normal. Actually, it felt like a good night.
Just weird.

OK, so using the Dreamware, AHI got back to the 2-3.5 range. Last night I went back to my old Nuance pro nasal pillows, and had an AHI of .32. I guess the mask really does make a difference. Of that .32, all was "UA's"

What was your leak rate? UAs aren't usually flagged unless there is a big leak. How much time (if any) spent in large leak?

Are you still using a Respironics machine?

The other thing that can happen is that if your mask fit and everything lines up you can get into a deeper more normal sleep than before... going into a deeper sleep naturally causes more apneas... it may mean going to a higher starting pressure.
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"
