Noise issues with AirFit P10?

Post by JerseyGirl71 » Fri Dec 01, 2017 6:52 am

Hello! I'm new here and did a search but did not find anything, so I apologize if this has already been asked. I have been using my AirFit P10 for about 2 months now, and lately, the pouch has been making a noise I can't really describe. My mask and seal are secure, but it seems like the bottom side of the pouch (closest to my top lip) is moving with my breathing an making almost like a popping noise. I've not changed any of my machine settings. The mask will be fine for hours and then start making this noise seemingly out of the blue. I've tried taking the mask off and on, fiddling with the feeder tube, removing the pillow from the headgear and reassembling....last night nothing worked. The pillow still feels soft like it did when I got the mask. Has anyone else had this issue or does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Yes, I have had the popping noise late in the night...and I use a P10.
For me it's water in the mask or the hose...usually in the mask. Tiny bit of condensation collecting in the pillows causing the inner cones to vibrate just a little and the popping sounds result.
Had it just yesterday morning in fact. Also had a very fine cold mist come out the vent holes.
And I use a heated hose set to max but my bedroom gets quite cold when the outside temps drop.

So if you think it might be moisture....
If you are using a heated hose...try increasing the hose air temp...if already using a max hose air then consider adding a barrel cozy to help insulate the barrel of the pillows so the condensation doesn't happen. This will be my next step most likely and I already have one.

If not using a heated hose...get one.
You didn't fill out your equipment profile or mention which machine you are using...so I don't know if your machine is heated hose capable or not.
If it isn't there are stand alone heated hoses available.

A teeny tiny little bit of water in the mask or hose will cause a horrible racket including popping, gurling, etc. When it's really bad it will wake my husband and he's not a particularly light sleeper. It can get quite noisy. A lot of water makes enough noise to wake the dead.

I agree with Pugsy.
Actually, in my experience, just a little bit of water in the hose or mask can make a big racket. I am hearing impaired but it still wakes me up.

Thanks so much! I didn't see where to fill in my machine info - I'll do that. I have an Air Sense 10 AutoSet with heated hose and have definitely experienced condensation in the hose and the pillows. It's been better since I turned down the temp on the hose and started pulling most of it into bed with me. I shook the mask out last night but did not really dry it, so that could be the culprit. Will upping the temp on the hose work or make it worse? We keep our room pretty chilly at night. I'll definitely look at the barrel cozy - I want to buy some kid of padding for the strap so I don't wake up with marks on my face from sleeping on it.

How to add your equipment to your profile. Please use text and not the icony choice...at a glance all the machines look alike and can't tell which model.
wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile

For condensation issues more warmth or heat is needed so the temperature of the hose air needs to be increased in some fashion or other.
It's physics in action...warm air will hold onto the moisture better than cool air. So warm air hold more moisture and when that air cools it can't hold the moisture and condensation occurs.
Warming the hose/mask air can be accomplished in many ways.....increase the temp if using a heated hose...hose cozies, etc.
A person can also increase the ambient bedroom air temp so that hopefully the bedroom air doesn't cause too much cooling of the air in the hose or mask. Not really all that practical IMHO to alter bedroom temp warmer...unless a person just likes warmer air to start with.
A person can also try reducing the humidity setting in an effort to lower the amount of moisture in the hose air. Sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't and sometimes your nasal mucosa don't like being drier.
Sometimes it doesn't work so great because it is the moisture in our own exhaled breaths that is condensing in the mask. I know people not using a humidifier at all who get condensation in the mask.

Since you have some room to increase the temperature of the hose air...that's what I would try first. Sometimes all it takes is a couple of degrees.
Running the hose under the cover will help some with the hose air but won't help so much with the air in the mask temperature unless you sleep with your head under the covers. Once that warmer air exits the part of the hose that isn't under the covers the ambient room temps start working on the hose to cool it. The idea with warmer temp setting is hoping that the air will stay warm enough by the time it reaches the mask to not release that moisture in the air.
Remember you have that short hose from the long hose to the mask that isn't heated so cooling of the air will start as soon as the air exits the long hose.

When you wash your nasal pillows...make sure they have adequate time to dry before using. Sometimes a tiny drop of water can be in the pillow somewhere and it makes a lot of noise also.
When I wash mine it's usually in the morning and I position them on a towel so they can drain well to reduce any chance of water being inside the pillow after cleaning. If you do wash them at night might double sure that the inside gets thoroughly dried.

I love the barrel cozy and will often use it just because it feels good against the skin. I have used them during the summer when rain out wasn't an issue just because they feel good against the nostril skin...sort of like soft silk.
I use the Padacheek strap covers with my P10. I am one of those people who get dents from the least little thing on my cheeks or face.
I will get a "scar" on my cheek from sleeping on a wrinkle in the pillow case.
The Padacheek strap covers reduces those dents to barely seen and they fade quickly. Without the strap covers I will have dents until noon.
Now I could probably make my own but I don't really want to so I buy from Karen at Padacheek.
