How appropriate is it to post a subject which is somewhat off topic? For example I was considering asking how much members monitored the quality of their sleep .... i.e. time in various stages of sleep.

My understanding is that most anything sleep-health related is generally considered on-topic around here.

Off-topic subjects are fine, but tradition lately dictates that we start the subject line with OT to indicate it is off-topic. That's our way of keeping everything in one big bucket so nothing gets missed while still having a way to wave people off the topic if they are only looking for on-topic stuff.

Jnk is correct.
If something is remotely related to sleep or cpap use in general it's considered ON Topic and no need to mark it OT unless you just wish to for some reason or other.
There's a very wide degree of allowance in that regard.

That said...Off Topic posts are welcome. We just ask that they be marked OT in the topic subject line.
The recent OT post about net neutrality is a good example. Or Goofproof's recent "the truths" thread.
or jnk's own thread here
viewtopic/t157511/OT-Time-In-andor-Ever ... hread.html

Now a discussion about sleep stages and various ways to try to identify sleep stages....definitely no need for OT designation in the subject line.

I am getting one of the new FitBit Charge 2 products today and it is supposed to be able to help identify sleep stages by heart rate (pulse)....and at some point I will likely create a thread to discuss what I find after my use of it. I may or may not OT the thread but mainly because it is going to be my own personal experience discussion as it may or may not interest others.

It never hurts to mark something OT that is probably not OT though...so up to the author of the thread.
Marking it OT opens the door for perhaps more heated discussion as there is more leeway for people to chat about their feelings.
I call them "read and respond at your own risk" threads. You might not like what you read. Sometimes the gloves come off and punches get thrown as some forum members feel strongly about something and will vigorously defend their position. It's OK in OT threads....people not interested simply don't have to read because they know the topic doesn't related to sleep or cpap.

That seems entirely appropriate. I have tried several different sleep trackers. The most accurate appear to be the "Aura sleep system" as well as the Oura ring. (two different companies and styles. The Aura is a pad the goes under the mattress, while the Oura is a ring/fitness/sleep tracker. Most of the apps that use the phone to track are useless, especially if you share a bed either with another person, or two dogs and three cats.

It is useful to see the correlation between AHI and sleep quality.

Since this thread is rolling, you might want to edit the subject to something like "Sleep Trackers".

If you go to the OP and click on Edit Post, you can edit the subject.

Or if anyone wants me to I can create a new thread for discussion about these types of programs and devices since I just got my new FitBit Charge 2 a few minutes ago.
Then we can start off the discussion about the FitBit but include other devices or programs in the discussion.

Haven't had the time to play with the FitBit yet...not even unboxed it yet.
Got it for 2 reasons...watch my heart rate and play with the sleep status reporting feature. RobySue has one and she thinks it is fairly accurate in terms of sleep stage reporting based on her own experiences and she's fairly well versed about her own sleep.
So maybe not total voodoo magic.

I guess what I really meant was I could do it now vs later. It was originally going to be later since I didn't have anything to report on my FitBit experience just yet.

Very well. I will start a new thread in a bit. Give me a little bit of time to compose it as I have some other irons in the fire at the moment.
