help! still tired!
hi newbie here. i have been getting about 8 hours of sleep on apap for the last 7 days and still feel very tired. my AHI has been averaging about 4 for the 7 days. however my starting AHI before apap from the sleep study was 14 so wondering are these results good enough to start feeling better? and if so how long will it take to see improvement? or is there anything from these results that stand out? any help is much appreciated thanks.
Re: help! still tired!
What are your pressure settings? You've kept them from showing up under the pie chart results (along with others).

Personally, I could not sleep through those pressure fluctuations/changes (and would feel like crap).
And, your minimum is too low based on the amount of events you're still having.

Bump your min. pressure to e.g. 8 or 9 for a few nights to see how things go and raise the upper one to 15 or higher.
FYI Den has a bee in his bonnet re not liking auto, but the majority of us do like it, so keep that in mind.

Also for a little more information I had my pressure settings at 7 to 15 and was not able to sleep and bumped my upper pressure down to 10 recommended from my sleep doc and was able to sleep through the night so it seems that I can’t handle the higher pressure without waking up every hour

For the most part, the important setting is the minimum pressure......to eliminate almost all of the events......similar to setting a straight CPAP machine.Dgriffin333 wrote:Also for a little more information I had my pressure settings at 7 to 15 and was not able to sleep and bumped my upper pressure down to 10 recommended from my sleep doc and was able to sleep through the night so it seems that I can’t handle the higher pressure without waking up every hour

I started off on APAP and found my "optimal" pressure, then took Den's suggestion and switched to CPAP and have never NOT had a good night's sleep since.

It's only one small Bee, and we both like Honey, I have two APAPS and one CPAP, all "Tanks". The CPAP is my first 12 years old, I will go to APAP when it dies But CPAP also provides great results, as long as you have it set correctly, ad if pressure changes bother you, with CPAP you don't have them, APAPS can also be set to CPAP Mode, win, win! Keep that Honey flowing Den! It's OK. Over the years I've had lots and lots of "converts" once they try it.

Re: help! still tired!
So seems like everyone is suggesting increasing min pressure a bit ?

Re: help! still tired!
Well, if you wish to stick with a range of pressures, try raising the minimum by 1 cm. for several nights at a time (3 or more).Dgriffin333 wrote:So seems like everyone is suggesting increasing min pressure a bit ?
If you wish to try a straight pressure, try raising the minimum to 10 cm. and see what that does. In effect, when the minimum and the maximum are set to the same setting, you have straight pressure but other events will also be recorded (like Flow Limitations).

Re: help! still tired!
I never suggested NOT trying anything, only alerted the newbie to Den's particular 'prejudice' re therapy mode. THe fact remains that the majority use Apap and find it helpful and I suggest you continue with it until such time as it's not and you've proven that is the problem rather than something else. A min. setting of 6 is low by any standards and the usual advice apart from other possible issues is to try it at a bit higher for a short time. Certainly anyone's free to do what they want at any time.
