New APAP User and I hate it.

Post by pab61 » Sun Nov 19, 2017 9:22 am

Hi,
I have been a APAP for less than a week and I hate my mask. It hurts the bridge of my nose and I need to wear it very tightly. When I received my mask I wasn't fitted for it. The tech just gave me a large. Is it just a matter of getting used to it or should I be looking into something new? My mask is a Devilbiss full face.

Try a different mask and one that you are properly fitted for.

They aren't all the same and some are more comfortable than others.
If you find something across the bridge of the nose annoying (as would I) look at the Respironics Amara View or the Innomed Hybrid.

Do you just have to use a full face mask because of nasal congestion making it impossible to breath through the nose? If your nose works fine...there's a whole world of masks out there that aren't nearly as much "stuff" on the face as full face masks.

So why are you using a full face mask?

Masks are not designed to be worn tight. I'm not familiar with your mask, but it looks very much like the Quattro mask that I use. Mine is worn quite loose. You might try a nasal pad or a mask liner.

My advise to keep going back to your physician till you are happy with the devise and the mask.

We had various issues over the first year and we didn't give up. Usually they are very helpful and sometimes they need a push however, keep going till you feel 100% comfortable with the machine as otherwise it will just frustrate you more. Also be patient as this can take a very long time but I am sure it will all pay off at the end.

If you are using a provider for your supplies, tell them you need to try a different mask. Many have a one time mask replacement policy. It doesn't hurt to ask.
