Post by Doug123 » Sat Nov 18, 2017 2:15 am

Does any know what distilled water machine is best for the cpap?

I'm in an area where I can not get distilled water.

If your tap water is clean and safe, you could use it and just check your tank weekly for any deposits.

If you are where Amazon delivers and are looking to make your own, Check the distiller reviews on Amazon.

Actually, makeshift distillers are not difficult to build.
How-to's are available on the internet.
The important thing is to observe all safety precautions.
It doesn't take a genius to be a MacGyver.

and i could make my own beer or wine too
but is it practical and a good use of time/effort

is it worth the effort to build a distiller
and all the work to get it to make a fluid
If you knew a good engineer, maybe they could make a efficient distiller for you. BTW: Beer and Wine don't need distilling, let your engineer know that! Toot! Toot! Jim

My father-in-law was a slave in WWII Germany, when the coal mine where he had been working was bombed,
leaving him on the street, with no resources. He made excellent vodka, for which he was fed, housed, and clothed,
all while temporarily incapacitating numerous German soldiers.
Fancy setups are not necessary. "Plug and play" is a habit that cripples.

I have used filters in the past, everything from cheap carbon filters to high end RO filters. The costs for the filters on a system that worked got a little expensive and the RO system used quiet a bit of water as well. About 4 years ago, I picked up a home water distiller from Sears and it works great. I fill up i jug, plug it in and the next morning I have a gallon of distilled water. Mine is a kenmore but it looks very similar to a Waterwise 8800 and I suspect they are the same.

you totally miss the point
which if you actually had one
would be on the top of your head is it really worth the effort to make a still to get water for an xpap
when plenty good enough filters can do the job faster better easier cheaper
No, YOU missed the point, Chunkyfrog knows what she is talking about as she has a distiller to make distilled water. Actually it has been mentioned many times here on the forum and you don`t read too well.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Any water distiller you buy at Walmart or wherever will work fine.
All of the deposits end up in the distiller and the you can clean the distiller out with CLR or other cleaners.
It is more money up front, but in the long run it may be cheaper.
I've had mine for about 10 years. Got it for drinking water.
Using weight loss, general exercise, and tongue/throat exercises I managed to get my AHI down to approx 5.
Not using a machine currently.

The distiller can be cleaned out with citric acid, if you prefer cheap and non-toxic.
Citric acid can be bought in bulk online--very cheaply.

Not supposed to drink distilled water, your body needs the minerals in real water, but not the lead. Jim

The idea that drinking distilled water is dangerous is 95% medical quackery type nonsense. Unless you're drinking exclusively distilled water or have some really weird diet, you'll get all the minerals you need from other food or drink.

Edit - let me throw in one caveat. Don't drink distilled, reverse osmosis, or deionized water from any source not intended for human consumption, like for instance, from an industrial operation. There might be some sort of chemical or contamination in the process that is OK in the industrial operation, but not OK for humans to drink. Also remember that distillation removes minerals, but can actually increase the concentration of some chemicals. That is, for instance, how they turn wine into liquor.
