OT: ACO's--a new name for HMO?
I just received a notification from my doctor that they are joining an ACO.
I need to avoid the poor care I suffered while in an HMO. Might not survive this time around.
Does anyone know anything about this type of organization?
Do I need to look for a new doctor?

Do you have a definition of the acronym ACO or any of its characteristics?

Google: Medical ACO. https:www.cms.gov maybe that will help. Jim

See Wikipedia for Accountable Care Organization. It is primarily for Medicare organizations but is similar to HMOs in that they use a capitation model, so the less care you get the more money they get to keep.

FOOL ME ONCE
chunkyfrog, this will not happen to you again. Every breath you take asleep and awake, *know that*.
We must find a way to do better.
Don't be so polite that you accept poor care.
Find a way to document and take charge.
We all must try and do it for others that are too sick to fight against the readily available poor care. Are any of us strong enough to advocate for someone sicker and weaker who may need us *now*? Who is too polite to impose or ask?
Someone to drive. To sit and listen. To document.
Watch for busy work and duplication.
...and cf ~~~every breath you take ... asleep and awake ... you say Fool me once? well ...NEVER AGAIN.
know there are others of us out here with you breathing in/out ...NEVER AGAIN.
Please keep us fearlessly in the loop.

Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.
Re: OT: ACO's--a new name for HMO?
Now that I know the meaning I must agree, I will not allow a doctor or organization dictate my care.I have been an advocate for others too polite or ignorant to stand up for themselves as well as myself and my wife. Doctors may inform, educate and recomend. I decide. I have on occasion been forced to pay my own way when I couldn't convince insurance to pay. I refuse to pay a copay larger than the full cost of an item.

============
you cant handle the truth
facts upset liberals and progressives as well as commies and fascists and socialists trying to destroy the usa
And what exactly are you doing in your life that won't destroy the USA... anything besides sitting at home on your key board spouting off your usual nonsense ad nauseam? Do you have a life? Do you have friends? Do you do anything besides spew garbage here? Never mind, most of us already know the answer.
You must be aware that you say the exact same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over? It's a joke. That's because you have nothing useful to say and add nothing whatsoever to this forum... or to the world!
