Hose woes
Hose woes
Well, a first for me last night.
I woke in the middle of the night with the hose wrapped completely around my neck like a noose.
Very disconcerting. Never happened with the top mount hose.
Needless to say the mask and hose came off and were tossed to the side. I went back to sleep without the xPAP and woke feeling tired, sore, and with a headache.
Another great step backwards.

Re: Hose woes
Sometimes you have to just unwind, reset and keep on using the machine. Getting pissed off and taking off the mask is just self-destructive.

I did unwind - the damn hose.TASmart wrote:Sometimes you have to just unwind, reset and keep on using the machine. Getting pissed off and taking off the mask is just self-destructive.
Taking the mask off was the easiest and quickest way to get the hose from around my neck.
I'm far too tired to fight with putting a mask back on when I'm still half asleep. Maybe if I was experiencing a bit more energy or feeling better from the treatment I would be more willing (and able) to fight with the things that go wrong.
I am just so desperate for sleep, anything to get back to it as fast as possible...

Google Hose Buddy, or else do a ceiling hook, leaving enough slack to turn over with.

Re: Hose woes
With practice, the mask can come off and back on so easily, you won't give it a second thought.
The more it bugs you, the more practice you need, so get crackin'.

Re: Hose woes
I think that will just trade one problem for another. If I turn over enough to wrap the hose around my neck, yes the Hose Buddy will prevent that. However, if I turn over enough to wrap the hose around my neck, I will still do that but instead of wrapping around my neck the hose will just pull the mask, create leaks, and wake me up any way.Julie wrote:Google Hose Buddy, or else do a ceiling hook, leaving enough slack to turn over with.
In 3 weeks it has only happened once, so maybe it's a fluke - I hope so.

Re: Hose woes
I don't know about other masks, but the Amara View is not easy to put on and get sealed. It takes effort when I'm awake, don't know how I could do it half asleep. On top of it being tricky to seal at the nose, the removable straps could be a lot easier to connect. I sometimes have to do it a mirror.chunkyfrog wrote:With practice, the mask can come off and back on so easily, you won't give it a second thought.

Re: Hose woes
Max... You aren't the first person to have the hose-wrap problem, or for that matter all the others you've come up with and dismissed without trying, so what's the point at all of our even bothering any more? You're so sure you've got it all fig'd out sight untried, yet go on complaining. What's to lose by trying something, anything that's been suggested - you might even be surprised!

Re: Hose woes
I do appreciate all the suggestions, but in this particular case, my tossing and turning is the problem, and the neither the Hose Buddy, nor a ceiling hook are going to change that. The hose will still get pulled that same amount, and if it's pulled the same amount but stopped short, it will do what I said it will do.Julie wrote:Max... Maybe if treatment was working for me and I was getting sound sleep, I wouldn't toss and turn so much. Maybe it's the mask getting in the way waking me up. Maybe it's the hose getting in the way. I don't always know. All I know is that my SH numbers are great so breathing problems aren't what's waking me up. I also know I'm not making any progress on my tiredness.
I'm really hoping my next sleep study can pinpoint the issue and it's something that can be dealt with. If it's the mask getting in the way, either I give up or they give me something strong enough to knock me out all night so I don't move. I guess I'll find out around the end of this month.
You all seem to think I'm making stuff up about what will or won't work - that's not true. I know myself very well, and I can foresee what certain things will do or not do. It's exactly the reason I chose the Dreamwear mask - it's the least intrusive of all the masks and it keeps the hose out of the way. It would still be my first and only mask if I didn't need such high pressure to treat my breathing issue.
I did try a chin strap. I did try tape. I have mucked around with all the machine settings. I'm not sitting here refusing to change anything, there are just some things you (all) have suggested that I know will not work for me.
The chin strap, tape, and machine settings were all an unknown to me, so I tried them. 1 out of 3 worked, but that's still 1 better than it was.

You have said that you reply to old posts so as to educate newbies, shouldn't the same logic apply here and Max's questions be used to provide information to the greater population?xxyzx wrote:========Julie wrote:Max... Re: Hose woes
My point was that since you xxyzx have championed answering old posts because someone else may have that question, why would that same logic apply to answering Max's questions? Even if he ignores your advice, other peole may have the same question. Is is it that you dislike Max so feel like he is unworthy of your wise and benevolent answers

Re: Hose woes
Max, the dance of life can sometimes overwhelm us. You have a choice. You can step back and regroup and try again, or you can wallow in your tears and just throw in the towel.
My opinion is to fight back.
Picture yourself as a ballroom dancer. You just tangled yourself up with your partner (the hose) and you both fell down on your ass. Get up, dive back in, and see if you can put on a much better show the next time you dance (tonight).

Having the hose wrapped around your neck is no big deal. Unwind it. Sleeping without your machine is a very BAD habit. I’d sleep with the hose around my neck before I slept without my mask on. I bet a hose has never killed anyone. Untreated SA has.

Re: Hose woes
The problem isn't the hose around my neck directly - it's the indirect waking me and causing me to have interrupted sleep - just like breathing problems.Cardsfan wrote:Having the hose wrapped around your neck is no big deal. At this point I know my breathing issues can be treated but I'm not getting any more sleep than with untreated breathing issues. Prior to getting a FFM, all my arousals were breathing related, now those are gone, but now it's the mask and hose causing all the arousals. I have traded one set of problems for another, and have no improvement in quality or quantity of sleep.
It's really wearing me down.
