Sleepyhead and cpap supplies question

Post by Masta » Sun Oct 22, 2017 4:45 pm

I installed sleepyhead version .9.8.1 a couple of yrs ago. I went off my cpap last yr due to loosing weight (which was a mistake, im a newbie). I restarted my cpap this yr after doing an overnight sleep pulse ox, it showed i needed cpap. Wondering if there is a new version i need to install (on my new laptop).

I tried to order new nasal pillows from my MDE provider. They told me that all health insurance companies switched from sending 2 nasal pillows per month to 1 nasal pillow per month as the new standard. Im wondering if this is correct information (for people residing in the U.S)?

There is a newer version.

I don't think that ALL insurance companies are reducing nasal pillows to 1 per month.
Medicare hasn't as far as I know.

If it were me I could call my insurance company and ask them directly and not rely on what a DME tells me. They can't possibly know what ALL the insurance companies do for anything.

In July, I contacted my new DME for replacement cushions, and they said they could only send 2 at a time (1 month's supply). Last week I called to request more, and they sent me 6, as a 3-month supply. (I'm on Medicare.)

First and foremost, congrats on understanding the importance of continued CPAP use! I've had several acquaintances who've stopped using after losing weight. They all soon understood that weight lose doesn't equate to diminishing sleep apnea & sleep improvement. In most cases apnea never goes away - unfortunately, unless you have throat/nasal surgery - and even those procedures don't elevate the neurological issues that cause apnea. As others on this thread suggested, 'yes' - there's an update to sleepyhead. I have been on CPAP for 3+ years and just recently analyzed my data using sleepyhead. Very enlightening information!
With regards to you nasal pillow - as most have indicated, your insurance or medicare provider may vary. Suggestion: be proactive with all your medical related communications with your provider - and keep a notes with all conversations (name of person, time date etc.).
Another suggestion: Since your CPAP machine has been in hibernation for some time (no pun intended) I would advise changing your hose, as well. All plastic, plastic-like or silicon items do discolor and deteriorate over time, using cracks, improper fir, etc. Also, don't forget to change your filter(s). In addition, since you've lost weight - you may also consider the changing your nasal cushion (model-type) as we'll - due to facial fat loss. Just some things to consider.
