Sores on nose
Sores on nose
Hello everyone. I’ve not posted in awhile because everything has been going swimmingly. Now, however I have a concern. I’ve been having red marks on the outside of my nose, up at the top of my nose. Both sides have been affected but now the left side has a pretty large red sore. It hurts, mildly, does not itch. I’m sure it’s from my mask and aggravated by my eyeglasses. I just wonder what to treat with. Antigungal or antibacterial? I think I also need to add a soft barrier between the mask and my skin. I am able to cover with makeup and concealer. Any thoughts?

Re: Sores on nose
When I first started, I got sores around the edge of my nares. The skin toughens up after a few weeks but in the mean time it was suggested by members here to use Ayr Saline Gel w/ Aloe on the affected areas and it did work for me.
I would encourage you to nonetheless do something to relive the issue as it may eventually interfere with your therapy if it becomes too painful to use your mask.

I would avoid makeup or concealer because of bacterial contamination concern. I would go for the nerd look and cut down an band aid long enough to go over the bridge of you nose at night with neosporin or such. Hopefully it wont cause a leak.

Re: Sores on nose
When I developed a sore on the bridge of my nose, I use a band aid on it at night until it healed. Once it healed, I started using a piece of mole skin on my nose at night to keep the mask from making my mask sore.

Same here, after it grew over it became stronger over time. jimOkie bipap wrote:When I developed a sore on the bridge of my nose, I use a band aid on it at night until it healed. Once it healed, I started using a piece of mole skin on my nose at night to keep the mask from making my mask sore.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I did not wear my mask last night (yes, I know bad idea) and the sore is much improved. I will go get some bandaids today and wear one tonight. I just found out I am allergic to latex and the bandaids I had on hand all have latex in them.

Re: Sores on nose
I had the same issue at first and I tried RemZzz, basically a thin layer of cloth between the cushion and the skin. Didn't really work for me, I couldn't get a good seal and in the morning they were no longer in place since I seem to fight the mask all night long. Might be worth a try to see if they work for you. The irritation on the nose eventually went away and no longer appears.
