Cannot belive
Cannot belive
Cannot get over all the problems with CPAP. Wow what a surprise. Your Doc does not tell you all the problems. But he does say--expect at least 3 months of trial and error. I guess this is the big clue.

Re: Cannot belive
t is the nature of the beast. Your Doc is going to soft-pedal potential problems until you have them. This is because studies have shown that if all the possible side effects of a prescription are discussed before people have them people will report more and more severe side effects. Also, the Dr does not see you sleep night in and night out, so they really do not know the positional effects and other things that you suffer from. YEs it takes some longer than others to find that combination of things that make the therapy work as well as it can for each individual.

Re: Cannot believe
Not everyone experiences every problem.
If a problem is expected, somebody will be waiting/looking for it.
Dread for something may actually CAUSE it--or make it worse.
Actual users may know more than the medical professionals, due to experience.
Just ask, and somebody can usually help.

and then you discover it is six months
or you are in the 45% that never get used to using it at all and then quit
This is the kind of idiotic post that discourages people from using CPAP, when it might save their lives. Before I started, I was waking up 10-12 times a night. After one week, and trying 3 different masks, I had first full night's sleep in a long time! It IS worth the trouble.

We try to encourage people to NOT quit.
We know the benefits of using and the pitfalls of quitting--
You are sounding less and less like a quitter.
I have hope for you.

but some people still cant cope with it
so look for ways to help them cope not lie about what i say

Re: Cannot belive
Why should your doctor describe to you all the potential problems that you may or may not have with CPAP? What would that do to help?AMESS wrote:Cannot get over all the problems with CPAP. I'd rather leave the office optimistic rather than a bag of nerves myself.
Re: Cannot belive
Quoting facts is one thing. But there is also this thing called Tact.
I'll offer a quote from a web site that talks about Tact.
Why Is Tact Important?
The ability to communicate with sensitivity offers many benefits.
First, tact is important when you have to deliver bad news or provide critical feedback, whether in personal or professional situations.
Next, communicating tactfully strengthens your reputation and builds your credibility. It allows you to preserve existing relationships and build new ones. A tactful approach shows character, maturity, professionalism, and integrity.
Tact also demonstrates good manners. If you can communicate with grace and consideration, you'll stand out from the crowd, and you'll get noticed for the right reasons. This can lead to career opportunities.
Finally, tact can help you to avoid conflict, find common ground, and allow others to save face. It can therefore be an important asset in negotiations and in conflict resolution.
Hypothetically - lets say your trying to give advice to some one fighting cancer... You could tell them that everyone dies. This is a "Fact" after all. Death and taxes and all that. I think we can all see that may not be a good idea if your goal is to be helpful.
Quoting compliance statistics to someone who may be struggling with cpap while arguably "Factual" I don't think is all that helpful.
Tact encompasses many things, including emotional intelligence, respect, discretion, self-awareness, thoughtfulness, compassion, subtlety, honesty, diplomacy, and courtesy.
I think the above qualities are rather lacking in a great deal of your communications. Maybe you could spend a little more time thinking through what you say before you say it.
