swift fx nasal pillow
swift fx nasal pillow
Every morning I wake up and I have a wind storm going on. My nasal pillow gets off target and starts to leak and continues until it's blowing full force.
I am so tired of this happening.
Has anyone fixed or solved this problem with a different nasal pillow? I see there's a few different nasal pillows and just throwing this out there - this already seems like a stupid question....sorry.
I use to use the gel nasal mask but that was a leaker for me too. I hate the mouth/nose masks...

Re: swift fx nasal pillow
Sounds like improper fitting or size if the pillows are falling out of the nostrils.
The Swift FX is actually one of the more stable masks out there when properly fitted and correct nasal pillow size is used.
You might want to review the mask fitting videos available for the Swift FX to see if you are maybe missing something.
I don't know if you would like the new Respironics DreamWear Gel nasal pillow mask or not. It's fairly stable when proper sized frame and pillows are used as long as you don't need XSmall pillows...they don't come in an XSmall.

The TapPap is very stable because it uses a mouthguard and properly fitted those pillows don't move anywhere.

Re: swift fx nasal pillow
I agree with Pugsy about checking the fit. I have this problem occasionally and nearly always it's one of two things - either the inside of the pillow has collapsed (happens after 3-4 weeks of use for me) OR because the mask itself has shifted during sleep. I tried a suggestion from here on the board and added the rough side of velcro so that it was in contact with my hair. Reduced the shifting significantly. Now, I only started doing that about a month ago, but haven't had a shift during the night since.
The pillow collapsing issue appears to be a nasal architecture thing. I can get that pillow to last another 2-3 weeks by boiling it for 5 minutes, but sometimes I just can't find the time for that and just get a new one. YMMV.
I alternate between this and Dreamwear. There's a pressure point on the Dreamwear that makes it uncomfortable for me to wear full time, but alternating works great.

What a difference a pillow size makes. HINT--get the right size. Did not even come loose from nose. First try medium..not did not work LAst night small--- YES. I felt no leaks around the cushion. But i did get a lot of air from the air hole where its supposed to leak. More air than any other mask. Is it just me? Anyone else have this?

Great Hint...I'll bet that works with shoes and clothing too.A MESS wrote:What a difference a pillow size makes. HINT--get the right size. Did not even come loose from nose. Not just you and the force of the vented air from the vent holes varies a lot from mask to mask. It's normal and nothing to worry about.A MESS wrote:But i did get a lot of air from the air hole where its supposed to leak. More air than any other mask. Is it just me? Anyone else have this?

Re: swift fx nasal pillow
Question Pugs--The leak score was 23. I thought I did not feel air from the cushions. Thought it was from air hole. But since u say the swift fx sends out a lot of air--then I am leaking around the cushions and just dont know it. Righto?
Re: swift fx nasal pillow
Two potential sources for excess leak....mouth or nasal pillows. What you are seeing reported is excess leak only. The mask vent intentional leak has already been removed from the calculations before reporting the on screen leak number.A mess wrote:Question Pugs--The leak score was 23. So either mouth opening or pillow movement.
The 23 number off the machine is what we call a 95% number and all that means its your leak was at 23 OR below for 95% of the night.
You were NOT at 23 all night long. The Or Below part of the definition is real important to remember.
ResMed uses 24 L/min as red line for large leak territory.
You would need to use available software to see exactly just what the leak line did but unless the 95% number goes significantly higher (like above 30) and you start seeing Mr Frowny face for mask fit...I wouldn't worry about the leak.
The machine is still fairly accurate up to around 35 L/min...you need to be looking at the software reports if your 95% number is that high.
There's a lot involved with leak evaluation when leaks exceed 24 L/min....like how far and how long.
For general purposes...23 off the LCD screen...I wouldn't worry about leaks affecting therapy or results recorded..as long as I was sleeping soundly.
Now if leaks are waking a person up...and disturbing sleep...then they need to be worked on no matter how big or little but because they are disturbing sleep.
