Resmed S9 running at maximum pressure

Post by edam » Mon Oct 09, 2017 12:30 pm

Since my S9 was replaced about 8 months ago I have been having trouble with high pressure.
Two or three times a week the pressure will increase to 20cm and stay there for 2-3 hours before it wakes me up OUCH
The machine has been checked out and parts changed as a precaution but Im still getting the problem.
Sleepyhead,I will post the data once I figure out how to do it, is showing some strange waveforms and also showing that the resp rate is up to 50.
I have found that reducing the max pressure does not help as i dont feel that good when I wake up in the morning so it seems I need the pressure.
I have been using Apap,s for several years but this problem is beating me so hence this post.

It's possible any number of things have changed and affected your apnea. If you feel better with the high pressure, you're probably correct in assuming that whatever has changed now requires more pressure to treat.

Its not a case of feeling better at 20 but being worse if I cap it at a lower pressure. It seems better to be woken at 20 than spending all night at 18
My AHI is nearly always under 1 with just 2-3 Hypopnoea so that has not changed

Have you had any changes you're aware of? Weight gain? Age (lol)? Medications?

Those are just a few things that can cause changes.

the machine thinks you need that pressure It does seem to

why does it wake you up ? Just to much pressure

could you feel better if you increased the max Its running at max

Take a look at your flow limitations, I speculate that your s9 is raising the pressure in response to flow limitations, my Airsense 10 does that.

With that high pressure need you may need a bipap machine.

I believe the flow rate is actually the flow rate, not the flow, so for any point in time, if you read back to the y-axis it five the rate per unit time, You would have to integrate the curve over a specific time period to get the flow for that time period.

What concerns me is the double inhales on the flow graph and the waveforms between breaths
Does this account for the resp rate. not shown yet , going up to 50 .

As the problem with high pressure is still ongoing and reading the post about resp.rate and artefacts rather than starting a new post im kicking this up.
I am finding ,although its early days, that a different mask runs at lower pressure ie a Resmed Quatro Air runs at pressures below 17 whilst a Resmed F20 goes up to 20

I have been struggling with the same issue - pressure need seems to be 20cms and still flow limitations - but I don't have the same flow patterns. Mine are much uglier.

Can you post some recent daily zoomed out sleepyhead images, with events, flow rate, pressure, flow limit (skip mask pressure)?
