traveling to Europe

Post by sl3b » Sun Oct 08, 2017 4:37 pm

I am traveling to Europe in December. Any suggestions for international travel with a c-pap? Also, do any of you know where I could rent a very small c-pap so I don't have to take my standard one?

You could consider the travel version. But you should have a carrying case for your machine. I do not think anyone rents them. You need to get used to it. i am hauling mine along a trip in Nov.

There are small travel machines available (look on Cpap.com for some). You should know that the TSA allows you to take it as a carry-on free, along with your regular carry-on, because it's 'medical'. Don't ever check it with your other luggage!

You can travel with a CPAP and carry it on board. The CPAP will not count as a piece of carry on luggage. So that's nice.

They may or may not inspect the machine.

A quick Duck Duck Go search shows organizations willing to rent, particularly for vacation. You would probably need to do the search yourself, so you can choose a convenient location. However I am not sure if they rent the little ones.

Alternatively, you could pick up a second hand travel machine (kijiji, second wind) and resell it after your vacation.

Have a wonderful trip.

I stand corrected. No idea you could rent a travel Cpap machine.

A couple things to consider.

Travel machines usually do not have a humidifier. Travel machines are usually louder than normal machines.

Try the machine out at home before you go so that you know you can sleep okay with it. Or better, yet, get a backup machine of your current one and take that instead. It really isn't that much bigger, and it uses the same algorythms as your current machine. Feels the same, sounds the same. If you can get by with the humidifier, you can leave that piece home.

I took my Resmed S9 autoset with me on my trip. No problems at all, and I slept great. It fit under the seat with my personal bag. I also had a wheeled carry on, and a checked bag. It is was no hassle at all, even when I had to spend the night in the airport in Mexico will ALL my luggage. I got bumped from a flight at 8pm and had to wait until 5am before I could recheck the checked luggage.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I travel with my PR560 without humidifier. I use a heat moisture exchanger (HME), specifically the one that comes with the Z1 travel machine. They cost about $10 and fit into your hose system. They work very well and are rated to last seven days but I've got nearly three weeks out of one.

HI- I just made my 1st overseas flight and took my cpaps. I was on a lONG flight and needed to use my machine on the flight. I bought a Phillips Dreamstation GO with battery and was very satisfied. I used it on the planes both ways with no problem. It sat on the plane's tray table just fine. No one even gave me a 2nd look when I used it on the plane.
I also took my everyday machine, Resmed Airsense 10 APAP and used it on the cruise and hotel. Yes, I hauled TWO CPAPS on the trip with me. There was no way I was getting on a ship in the middle of the ocean without a backup machine. I buzzed through 5 airports and a cruise ship terminal with 2 machines, and never had one problem with security.

I saw other people with machines in the airport and cruise terminal, they are pretty common for travelers to carry.
