Knock knock!

Post by Janknitz » Sat Oct 07, 2017 10:31 am

I experienced something I never had happen before--true rainout!

I sneezed and had a runny nose all day yesterday so I decided to really crank up the humidifier all the way last night. It really helped! I slept well even though I used the DreamWear instead of switching yo a FF mask.

But I woke up to knocking in my hose! Every time I shifted my head it knocked. And I suddenly realized the bottom of the nasal piece on the dream wear was full of water. The hose was dripping! I never had so much as a drop of moisture in a hose before.

Now to dry it all out.

And as soon as I got out of bed I was sneezing and congested again.

The only time my husband has ever been woken up because of the cpap machine has been when I have had the rain out thing happen.
Man does that water make an awful racket.

You betcha for sure.
I haven't use a non heated hose in probably nearly 5 years now.
Now not long ago I left the window open and the outside temps dropped really low for this time of year and I was still using the lower 70ish hose temp and I got some condensation in the nasal pillows. So I just increased the temp the next night and no more problems.

Never woke him up with the back door blowing open?

But then again, that doesn't even wake me up - that I know of.

Not that I know of. He has never mentioned it.

Says for the most part he can't even tell the machine is on unless he puts his hand over my face to feel the vented air.

Only time he has ever woke and said "what the hell is wrong with your machine" has been when there is moisture in the hose.

So true! When I stay at my sister's house, or share a hotel room with her, I have to turn up the temp on my humidifier/heated hose so that I don't get that awful noise in my hose. Everywhere else, I am fine with my temp low and humidifier set at 5. I am amazed at how much noise a few drops of water can make.

It takes a lot to wake me.
I slept through a lightning bolt striking a huge cottonwood about 30 feet from the house.
My husband heard the noise from 10 blocks away, where he was caring for his mother.

Until recently, I had never heard of rainout. One night I heard this awful racket coming from my hose. It was so loud it woke me up. In my sleepy state, I could not figure out what the noise was. I asked my husband, who has excellent hearing, to come and listen. I took the nose piece off so we could hear better. So there we were, with out heads together, bent over the hose when a HUGE spray of water blew out onto our faces! What made it worse was my husband was horrified because he thought it was snot that had dripped into the hose! LOL!

That's weird! I was sneezing and scratching my eyes all day yesterday too! Dang allergies. I thought about using my humidifier last night.

Yep, sheriff, I'm thinking this might be allergy. I've never had anything like this before. Day 5 of sneezing, red, watery eyes, and otherwise I feel fine. Took Loratidine today to see if it helps.

I usually run my humidifier empty, but last night I set it to 5 and slept OK (except the dog barked at 2 am at a possum or something). No rainout on a setting of 5. No knocking.

I don't think I'd like a heated hose because after 6 years of arctic blast from that stupid PRS1 I actually enjoy cool air. When I got this ResMed I could barely tolerate a neutrally warm temp.

The ulcers in my nose are back from this whatever it is. Fortunately coconut oil soothes and has antibacterial properties.

The Trilogy doesn't have a built-in humidifier so I use a standalone. I put it in a small glass dish, just in case something should leak (it never has). Every once in a while, when turning over, I pull too hard on the hose and uplift the entire humidifier, thus dumping water down the hose!

Yeah, it makes a helluva racket for sure!!

I've had to dump the water out of the hose/mask and end up with a puddle on the floor and my step (I need a small step to get into my bed).

I try really hard NOT to pull too hard on the hose when I turn over, but once in a while I screw up!!
