How to convince them?

Post by MaxINTJ » Thu Oct 05, 2017 6:33 pm

I stopped in at the sleep clinic today to drop off the last 2 weeks of data from my APAP. They wanted to know why the APAP trial was still going when it had stopped and gone to CPAP at too low of a pressure

Anyway, I tried to give them the almost 2 weeks of ASV data and they said since it wasn't the prescribed machine they couldn't assess it. WTF? How do I get them to look at additional data? I thought they would be happy to have MORE information.

It appears as if I still have to wait to talk to an actual doctor, so when that happens, how can I make them look at all the available data?

As a side note, IF they do prescribe an ASV, it will be a Respironics

KInd of like if you had a headache and used a friends prescription for opioid pain relievers they will not talk to you about that because it is not been prescribed. By law, they are not able to support you breaking the law. Sad, but that's the way it is.

The DME is the one that cannot discuss the results of a prescription device that is not been prescribed. It is not that the OP has and uses the device, its that the DME does not want to discuss the results of using an unprescribed device.

The DME in my case is the sleep lab itself - they're both VA.

They hinted the doctor may be able to look at it, but as techs they couldn't. I just want to have some ammunition to make sure the doctor does look at it.

Bringing my laptop may be the way to go - what a PIA, they should WANT the extra information.

And yes, thanks for the suggestion xxyzx ...

my dme is essentially useless, unless they are in sales mode.

when i go to my checkups with my neuro, i bring in my own data. i transfer my cpap data every morning into my computer and view it with sleepyhead.

i've made my own pressure adjustments much to the chagrin of the dme, but i've successfully gone from an AHI of 5+ and tons of waking up, to sleeping consistently 8 hours a night, very low leak rate, and an AHI averaging around 1.2.

sleepyhead is free. much info on this board on how to use and view data in sleepyhead.

my dme called this week to inform me they are "telling my doctor" that i have been adjusting my pressure.

my doc is totally fine with this. on our first check up i presented him with a printout of all my data, along with my adjustments and results. he just said "i guess you kinda know what you are doing"

it ain't rocket surgery.

i bet you were really afraid when they said that
i may or may not have laughed loud enough for people in their cars driving by the strip mall containing the DME's office to hear.
