Meds That Affect Your Sleep
So, I was real close to figuring out how to get a great night's sleep. Then, my dermatologist put me on an antibiotic to get rid of staph infection I had. For the past two weeks, I've slept until about 1 a.m. then could no longer sleep after that. So, so frustrating. Anyone else find that medications are affecting their sleep/causing insomnia?
Re: Meds That Affect Your Sleep
Yeah...one of my pain meds causes insomnia despite the "may cause drowsiness" sticker.
For a small percentage of people who take it...they get insomnia.
I drew the short straw. If I take it after 6 PM I am wide awake cleaning the house at 2 AM.

I was taking it twice a day, once in the morning, one right before dinner. Still couldn't sleep. I'm stopping it today, The staph infection seems to have gone away. So ready to sleep again!!
Re: Meds That Affect Your Sleep
I read a report that Zocor may effect the quality of your sleep. I tried it
for a while and I went from sleeping 8 to 9 hrs a night to needing 12 to 14
hrs of sleep a day. I would sleep a good 9 hrs and 2 hrs after I got up I just
had to take a little 2 to 3 hr nap. My sleep soon returned to normal when I
stoped taking it. I have a good friend about my same age whe experienced
the same thing when taking it.

My understanding is that for antibiotics the full course of prescription must always be taken. Superbugs and all that.lwieland11 wrote:I was taking it twice a day, once in the morning, one right before dinner. Still couldn't sleep. How many days left on your Rx? If it is a lot it's better to ask your doctor for a different one, one that doesn't affect your sleep.

That is not necessarily the case according to this article which talks about how it might be ok to stop the drug when you feel better which seems to be happening with lwieland11.

The instructions say take 1 capsule twice a day for 2 weeks. I've done that. But there are plenty of capsules left in the bottle. What would you do? The staph infection did seem to go away.

If it was me, I would discuss the situation with a pharmacist, or go back to the doctor.lwieland11 wrote:The instructions say take 1 capsule twice a day for 2 weeks. I've done that. But there are plenty of capsules left in the bottle. What would you do? The staph infection did seem to go away.

Yes, propranolol extended release. Regular delivery is fine (for me) but not extended release. Didn't notice a change in sleep, but daytime symptoms of sleep deprivation were increasingly worse until I was literally suffering. (but I also have a genetic mutation that affects the way I metabolize some medications - people of Chinese descent have a similar issue, requiring much smaller doses of some medications)lwieland11 wrote:Anyone else find that medications are affecting their sleep/causing insomnia?
