Remstar Classic E-25 Error

Post by Snoredog » Thu Dec 07, 2006 11:26 pm

Well after another 3-day trip to UCLA, I took along my old reliable RemstarPro Classic, it was one of the first C-Flex version machines to come out (reason I bought it).

Machine has 6500+ blower hours on it and never a single problem ...that is until last night. This is my travel machine I mainly use it when I camp or travel.

So on the 2nd night of my trip in LA I got the ole Pro out of its bag, connect the hose & mask to the machine and lay down to sleep. Hit the On/Off button, the machine revs up to full tilt blowing like 20cm!! and is really noisy, man must have a hole in the hose or something, just then the machine starts beeping shuts off with E-25 flashing on the LCD.

ah oh sounds fatal:
Image

Check the hose, mask no leaks man it is it noisy. Now this sucks, I have to drive like 5hrs the next day and without cpap that is going to be really difficult. In any case I made it home with lots of Starbucks.

So I got out a phillips screwdriver and removed the 3 screws holding the lid on the machine. Lifted up the main PCB, disconnected the motor wires, the round disc. Start looking for anything unusual, mmm.... this hose appears to be disconnected. Interesting the hose barb where the hose connects is inside the hose going to the pressure transducer. But where did it come from?

Cause of E-25 error:
The hose I used has very stiff cups on the end, the hose is difficult to put on the machine, so I give it a twist to get the hose on, but sometimes removal is also difficult. It appears that when connecting a hose directly to the machine you can actually "twist" the outlet port in the machine housing (this end of the machine only has 1 screw in the center, it can allow the top lid of the machine to "seperate" which can allow the port to twist, when it twists it can break off the Pressure transducer barb on the port

Outlet port where hose connects:

Here is the part removed from the machine:

Broken plastic barb was found in the hose going to the Pressure transducer on the main PCB. I used a brass brad nail to glue it back on, the nail made sure the hole aligned. I used some SuperGlue and some hot-melt glue to add extra strength.

I never bothered before but be careful connecting or disconnecting your cpap hose on your Remstar Classic (the Autopaps should be the same unless they changed the design).

Installing a hose with stiff ends can twist the port (top lid can seperate at the seam allowing the port to twist breaking off the internal hose barb.

I could have thrown this machine in the trash or sent it in for repairs, it is a old machine with 6500+ hours on it, been out of warranty for years and I could have sent it in if I wanted to pay for the repair, but simple repair job should hold up for what I use it for.

Suggest you start a new thread with details of your problem.

Snoredog passed away and apparently image hosting site has closed the account.

I happen to have the instructions (including pictures) for the procedure Snoredog used to fix his machine......saved in both Word (.doc) and Adobe (.pdf) document files. Actually, the one I saved was from another thread he posted the instructions to.

The truth of the matter is that the outlet port kit to fix the broken part (hose nipple) can be purchased for about $3.00.......or, if you have the right connections, you can get the outlet port by itself for even less.

Den/Wulfman,

I realize your post is 2 years old -if you are still reading this, I'd like to get snoredog's instructions w pictures on them - and more importantly directions to buy the part(s)
Either doc or pdf would do.
Thank you kindly.

it's that disorganization that replaced the pony express for most of the country...
