A few things... Yes, you probably will get used to the air within a few nights. In my early posts here I described it as "gale force winds". Soon I was checking the machine to make sure it was really on because I couldn't feel the air. Now, if you have mask leaks, I've never gotten used to those and must reposition the mask when I feel them, but that shouldn't happen a lot or they will need addressed. Sometimes a leaky nasal pillows mask needs a different pillow size. If air from the vent for exhaled air is bothersome, different masks have different designs. Some have diffusers. The vented air used to aggravate me. Now in the heat of the summer I find myself positioning my arm to be cooled by it. Whatever works. Things that are annoying now may be barely noticeable over time.

The pressure on your auto machine going up is what it is designed to do. As it reads your breathing, when it detects factors indicating your airway is becoming compromised, it will increase the pressure to hold the airway open. It may be the settings will need adjusted. It may be you need to adjust. Some who have had persistent trouble at a high pressure have backed the pressure down then inched it up as they got used to it. You may end up finding out a bit higher of a starting pressure could prevent those triggers for a pressure rise and it will stop going high enough to be bothersome. Often bilevels are given out due to higher pressure requirements. Not sure why you were given one. But if a therapeutic pressure is at the upper end of a prescribed wide range it's a pretty safe bet the lower end will be more efficient at an increased pressure. I'm unclear why your prescription has a range of 5-20 instead of how they are usually worded for a bilevel machine. I am not knowledgeable enough to offer help with settings, but others here can - once we've got more information to go on. Good luck with things.

Just for perspective, your machine lacks the pressure needed to inflate a balloon.
It only seems like a lot because you are not used to it yet.

Well there is a good analogy. Thanks for the reality check! It really helps.

Just think about how happy a beagle looks-- nose in the wind, ears flapping, drool blowing back in the car.

i can feel it inflating my lungs when i am not trying to breathe hard
Have you been snorting balloons also, if so, can you make balloon animals without using your hands. Jim

I do not know if this was meant as good-natured ribbing with a friend, but I suspect that it isn't.

This is my thread. Xxyzx made a comment for my benefit and I am getting damn well sick and tired of seeing people being rude and bullying Xxyzx. I've held my tongue so far, but, this is my thread and I am not going to tolerate abusive behavior from anybody. Period.

It doesn't really work that way in real life.

How hard is basic common courtesy? While no one can control what others do here, when someone asks for common courtesy regarding the thread they started, why isn't it respected with no further off topic comments after that point? I'm just so tired of seeing so many threads turned into pissing contests at the expense of the person here to get help. I try to stay focused on those who come here for help and avoid the bullsh#t, but just coming here feels like getting ambushed at every turn. Causes me to question my own sanity for continuing to expect better, and question the wisdom of continuing to expose myself to the near constant toxicity. Good grief people, when is enough enough?

CPAP does make it a little less effort to breath in and a little more effort to breath out, it's called "continuous positive pressure" for a reason. I too sometimes feel like it's filling up my lungs a little. I think that's intentional. Its definitely supposed to inflate your airways! Go easy.

Most of us eventually get so used to the airflow that we wake up and need to lift a corner of the mask
to confirm the machine is working.
