Pressure marks on face in morning

Post by umleitungme » Fri Sep 08, 2017 6:29 pm

Hi Ya'll - - new to forum. I have been using (on and off) a bipap for 3+ years now. Can't seem to find a mask that fits well and won't seal/leak -and- leave my face with pressure marks the next morning. I am using an airfit p-10, but will skip wearing it if the leaks won't allow me to fall asleep, or the next morning I find my face a disaster of pressure marks. Help! Any suggestions for alternate masks or advise on how to avoid the face marks (outside of Pad-A-Cheek - I already use them)?

What isn't working with the Padacheeks?

I have found that an icecube on the marks for 1-2 minutes helps lessen marks, and then some time.

Tap Pap mask...headgear is optional...so no marks because there are no straps at all.

I actually used this mask for over a year until the release of the ResMed AirFit P10.
It's a nice mask. I really liked it. The main reason I ended up with the P10 was I had to have some dental work done and couldn't use the mouth guard for a little while...so I used the P10 and just never got around to refitting the mouth guard after the dental work. The dental work wasn't related to the mouth guard...a 30 year old filling broke off and took some of the tooth with it and I ended up needing a crown.

The Pad-A-Cheek products don't stop the face pressure marks. I have 60 minutes from the time I get out of bed to the time I clock in at work, I don't have the extra hours to let the marks disappear. I'm a bus driver, and I already get up at 4:45 am each day. I don't have extra time.

Thanks Pugsy, I'll give that other strapless mask a try.

Your early morning riders heading to their jobs are too groggy and self-absorbed to notice.

By lunch, your face marks should be gone.

Please don't skip wearing your mask over a cosmetic (vanity) issue. You need to get healthful sleep so you drive safely. If a passenger comments, just explain it's due to a poor-fitting sleep mask and you're working on a solution.

Back to basics: I see you have been using bipap for a few years now; have you reviewed the fit instructions/videos for your mask(s), to be sure straps are not over- or under-tight, and that one side is the same tension as the other. . .I had to fiddle quite a bit to get my headgear/mask just right. Do you do your fitting while lying in your sleep position? Adjusting a mask while upright may not give you the best fit for when you are lying in bed.

A tiny dab of lanolin on the red marks can also help some (Lansinoh brand, in the baby products aisle--nursing mothers use it to heal sore nipples, and it works a charm for headgear irritations too).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do,
Jean
O soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleas'd eyes, embower'd from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine

Note to self: Pick up some of that the next time I'm at the drug store.

There was a time someone used to put it on the "be sure not to forget" shopping list I was tasked with.
