Forum Updates

Post by bendauphinee » Fri Aug 25, 2017 1:48 pm

Hello everyone! My name is Ben, and I work with CPAP.com. I wanted to give you guys a small update about what's been going on with the forum lately.

A few weeks back, the board was flooded with spam messages. This of course made things rather inhospitable for a while before we managed to get the mess cleaned up. Since that time, we have switched all new registrations over to requiring admin approval. This allows us to keep this place clear for our currently registered members, but has effectively closed registrations for the moment. This is not a permanent state of affairs.

I am currently working through a project to upgrade cpaptalk to a new version of the forum software we use. This will give us some much needed security upgrades, as well as giving us the tools to re-enable user registrations without letting every bot in. Sometime in the next month or so, I will make an announcement about the final timeline for this project, and we'll get you guys moved into a new home.

In the meantime, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause new visitors, and we thank you all for your patience.

Hello,

I just saved a reply I was writing in a another section to "Drafts".

Where do I now find my "Drafts" so I can edit and post it?

Thanks, and prayers and best wishes for safe times for those in Harvey's path.

Good luck with your phpbb upgrade. reintegrating everything uuuuugh

PS The capthcha won't stop the bots, the QA plugin won't stop the bots. If they have or you find something that stops the bots from registering let me know. I wrote my own system that stops the bots, it's stopped a million attempts and learns from each.

If I may:
Given the frequency that members direct interested parties to the forum as a valuable and hospitable venue for the sharing of thoughts and concerns regarding xPAP, I would sincerely hope those who attempt registration during this process be notified of the upgrades taking place that they feel welcome and encouraged to return.

Hello, Ben. I do hope you will see this although I suspect not. I'm copying/pasting a note I wrote below in a different thread, in the hopes that it may come to the attention of someone that can do something about it. Or who cares about doing something about it. Whether it is realized or not by the board owners, the outrageous level of harassment that is currently happening in their forums is costing them business.

A Note to the Administrators: Please re-consider your stance on the behavior being tolerated within these forums. It is disgusting and out of control. It reflects poorly on cpap.com.

Personally, I think it just reflects poorly on whiners, that need to grow up so they can function in the real world, but we all know that's not going to happen.

BTW: This thread was put up for the forum providers to inform us of progress of the spam problem, and forum software. I doesn't require your whining, the forum is where we need your whining. Jim
