Esoteric Settings on Aircurve 10 VAuto

Post by cby1 » Wed Aug 23, 2017 10:08 am

Hello - doing a BiPAP trial, and I noticed some settings that I'm not familiar with (I have no intention of changing them - just curious what they do):

Ti Max
Ti Min
Trigger
Cycle

Didn't see anything from an (admittedly) cursory search of this forum - I have also requested the Clinical manual from Apneaboard, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks!
Chris

The manual should shed some light on those settings and I am not the best at explaining them (PaleRider is real good at it and I think that he has explained them in the past but I don't remember when) but the best I can do is to offer that those settings will mainly affect the timing and length of the inhale/exhale sensation.
Trigger is how sensitive it is to your breathing so that it begins its response.
The factory defaults work very well for the majority of the people.
I forget what the cycle does and don't have time to go look it up at the moment.

They are quite safe to play with if you want to and see if something feels better or more natural. Just make a note of the factory defaults should it end up that you like those better.

I recently discovered with my AirCurve 10 ST that by playing with those settings I could lengthen the timing between inhale and exhale to better match my own respiration timing. Prior to changing it I felt a bit "rushed". Hard to put into words but think of it as more of a timing thing as in the timing between when the machine starts the increase and decrease associated with the EPAP and IPAP settings.
I don't remember what all I changed but I changed a couple of things until I felt that the machine was more in sync with my own respiration pattern. If I remember right it was the Ti min and max that I ended up really changing. Allowed me to feel less "rushed" and the overall breathing with the machine smoothed out so that I didn't notice the changes nearly as much. This was with the settings of 11 EPAP and 15 IPAP fixed S mode. Essentially what your machine would do if you were out of auto mode.
