exhale sound very loud now

Post by blueeyes » Sun Aug 20, 2017 7:44 pm

Just recently moved into a new house. Have not been to use CPAP much because when I exhale now it is so loud. I have respronics
system one cpap with humidifier. I have a full face mirage quarto mask. I have checked the filter on back. I have checked hose to make sure there was not a leak. I don't know what else to check..
Anyone got any ideas? I am tired of being so sleepy during the day.
Thanks

I can hear myself breathing in and out very loud. Never been this loud before. Someone said maybe I lost the o ring. don't know were the o ring is.

Do a little test for me please.
With mask and machine on as normal...laying in bed, etc.
Put your fingers in your ears and see if the noise level for the breathing sounds decreases, increases or stays the same.

How does the machine placement now compare to where it was before the move?
Is it closer to your head?
Do you use any sort of hose management system that brings the hose up over your head or do you just let the hose lay on the bed?

While just moving shouldn't have caused something bad to happen to the machine to make it noisier...it wouldn't be impossible.
Double check all your fittings from the water chamber in the machine to your mask.

If it is so noisy that you can't sleep then maybe it just decided it was tired and needs to be replaced and it's just a coincidence it happened now. How long have you had it?
Maybe its time for a new machine.

The machine is lower than it was before. I have checked filter to make sure it is good. I have checked hose for leaks. I have tightened my mask. I have had the machine for 3 years. The hose lays on the bed just like before. I have checked all the fittings. so frustrating.

Humidifier attached with same amount of water starting out the night??

Couple of things you can try and see if it helps or not.
Put the machine on a towel or mouse pad.
Try routing the hose up over the head so that it doesn't lay on the bed/mattress.

I don't know how much either of these will help because you said the noise level decreases when you put your fingers in your ears.
This is usually what is suggested for conductive noise which normally doesn't change or increases with the finger trick.

For something to change so much that you can't sleep because of the noise...something changed but we don't know what.
Breathing noises as opposed to machine motor noises are hard to figure out.
I have used both brands of machines...ResMed and Respironics including a 50 series machine...Respironics has always been a bit noisier on inhale and ResMed a bit on exhale. For me it has always been conductive noise though....I put my fingers in my ears and it's louder.

One other question...is the breathing noise so loud that your bed partner can hear it?

machine is quite a bit lower. My husband says the machine is a lot noiser than it was. He complains about the machine a lot anyway . I will try your suggestions tonight. Thanks for the help

If hubby is hearing it and noticing a significant change in noise levels then there may be something going on with the machine.
Maybe take it back to where you got it and see what they say.
Maybe it is more than just breathing noises being heard.
