Hair Loss Question

Post by jayec » Sun Aug 20, 2017 6:36 pm

Hello everyone,

After a few years of wearing my cpap ( I use nasal pillows ) the hair on the back of my head is being rubbed away by the band part that goes around my head. It has completely made the back of my hair crazy..but now it is starting to take my hair away.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I need to do to stop this?

Thank you in advance!

Jaye

I'd much rather be bald, than dead. Maybe the mask straps are too tight, cutting down on blood flow. Jim

I have not had this problem, but have some ideas. Maybe a snug-fitting cap (like a skull cap?) would protect your hair from the abrasion. Your headgear may also be too tight or too loose - if it's too loose, it could be slipping and rubbing as you move around in your sleep.

Strap cover or pad or a different mask with different headgear.

Strap cover or pads available here to give you an idea

put some sort of cushion between the straps and the hair

shave the hair
you can let it grow back out after you dont need teh cpap any more

maybe you are just losing your hair naturally and it is not the cpap doing it
And when is it that he will not need the CPAP ?

Few things... A tight fitting scarf to protect your hair like a skull cap or do-rag style. Plus a PadACheek strap cover. If possible, have a different syle headgear/mask to swap out if that's practical for you. Can be kinda hard to find just one we like so I realize two could be challenging. I've had this issue right on the top of my head before and I was nearly bald in a spot as big as my fist. I tried the SwiftFX because it had ear loops but the pillows weren't shaped for my nose. So glad now to be using the TapPap with no head gear. My hair has long ago recovered. Some people can't use it because of dental issues, but thankfully I can. Good luck finding what works for you. You shouldn't have to sacrifice your hair to get treatment. Of course if it was lose your hair or die that would be another story, but that is not the case.

Actually, it do(sic) Hair and nails continue to grow for quite a while after death.

Hair and nails do NOT grow af†er death, but the surrounding skin, etc. shrinks back so hair looks like it's grown.

After spending a fair amount of time with other breast cancer survivors,
most willingly sacrifice hair for MORE BIRTHDAYS.

errr....I never said I was not going to wear my cpap. I don't know how we got to me being dead in a coffin? It was just a simple question about hair loss from the mask. I did not know if there were any tricks. I did see a couple good tips and a possible change in my mask to a maskless system. Thanks everyone.

To jayec: Another thought - Some headgear made of silicone can be rather "grippy," but those made of neoprene (I think) don't grip as tightly, so may not pull on your hair as much as you put on and take off your mask. Best of luck to you in finding a solution.
