Any non-snorers out there? Secretly hoping I have OSA
Hello all,
Well not so secret anymore. I have a sleep test this Thursday. I originally got referred because I mentioned to my GP I have a general tiredness, less memory and focus than I used to have, and I remember waking frequently every night to turn over, and my mom has sleep apnea.
The sleep doctor said he's pretty sure I have more than mild sleep apnea despite my lack of common symptoms. He has scheduled a split study showing his confidence in diagnosis. I'm looking for encouragement here to see if anyone else also has been diagnosed with seemingly fewer symptoms? I'm truly hoping it's sleep apnea because I know there's a solution to the problem.
I'm a 28 yr old female. I don't snore, I don't have very obvious pauses in breathing according to my husband (although he probably is too busy snoring due to his own undiagnosed OSA haha). Weight wise I am not obese but I have been steadily gaining weight over the past 10 years. I don't wake up with headaches, I can stay awake easily when I'm engaged but put me on a bed with YouTube and I'll doze off. I do recall that I dream here and there so I must be getting SOME R.E.M.
Am I just a lazy bum or could the doctor be right? I was surprised he was so confident but I sure hope he's right.

My guess is you have sleep apnea or UARS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_air ... e_syndrome).
CPAP treats both.
CPAP treats both.

You should treat your own Sleep Apnea, and your husband's! Hopefully, your diligent compliance will get him to agree!

Re: Any non-snorers out there? Secretly hoping I have OSA
I read an article in a magazine about a woman who was a "silent snorer" who found out she had apnea. It said this can be more common with women and is often a missed diagnosis. And they do snore, but it's not audible. I wouldn't worry about whether you have all the symptoms or not. In my case, I have low blood pressure and never need to use the bathroom during the night. The opposite of both of these is most common for apnea. And, although my snoring has greatly bothered my husband, he has never once, in 25 years, heard me gasp or make choking sounds. And, I have always had lots of very vivid dreams. So, my point is just that everyone's symptoms vary and only a sleep study will tell you for sure. One final thing, if you don't get woken halfway through the night to put on a mask, don't assume that means you don't have apnea. I was sent home thinking I must not have it because I wasn't woken during the night. So I was pretty surprised 3 weeks later when I got a message telling me I have moderate sleep apnea! Good luck!

Thank you that's comforting to know! I need to trust that my doc has seen and heard everything and if he's pretty sure I shouldn't have any worries. Appreciate the encouragement!

It depends on a couple of things esp. whether or not the doc ordered a "split-nite" study or if they had enuff time for a titration after they got enuff data to make a dx. Then there are always the insurance requirements.Rainmom17 wrote:One final thing, if you don't get woken halfway through the night to put on a mask, don't assume that means you don't have apnea. So ask the doc if a "split-nite" was ordered.

I'm the one you quoted, and yeah, I did have a split night ordered. Honestly, it was nice to NOT be woken during the night like I was expecting!

I have a split night scheduled! He did say my airway looked narrow. I wonder if that's where he's basing a lot of his confidence. Fingers crossed. After all this and if I do end up with OSA....The next question will be Resmed vs. Dreamstation?? So many things to consider! I'm probably overthinking it which I do a lot

Both are brands of good machines. You just want to make sure you get an APAP that is data-capable and compatible with Sleepyhead. When you get your diagnosis and prescription, forum members will be glad to help you out. Don't get too far ahead of the process, but update this thread at every step.palindrome17 wrote:The next question will be Resmed vs. Dreamstation??

Be careful that Julie does not slip you something that has not been reviewed out in the open by her peers here.palindrome17 wrote:Sorry what's PM? Newbie hereJulie wrote:You have a PM.
