Heated Hose...

Post by WearyOne » Sun Aug 13, 2017 9:39 pm

I bought my first (and only) heated hose over ten years ago from Sleepzone. It needs replacing. don't see it on their site any longer (but did email to inquire). Anyone have a good place to get a heated hose that is generic in the sense that it doesn't have to be used with a specific machine? I don't want the one that is optional for my machine because I'd have to buy a different humidifier chamber and it wouldn't work with my older backup machine. The Hybernite Rainout listed on our host's site suggests not to use it with my machine due to 15 mm size, but my humidifier accepts 15 or 22 mm. I did ask about that through their site a little while ago. Any suggests?? Thanks!

Which one were you looking at?
This one shows in stock. This one is the 2300 which is one that I used with my 50 series machine before the 60 series were ever released.

It's a stand alone heated hose. Separate power source. It's either on or off like your sleepzone. They don't advise using a hose cozy as it gets too warm.

I edited my original post after I clear my confusion. LOL! There's a Hybernite Heated Breathing Tube and Hybernite Rain Control System. The "breathing tube" is discontinued and the "rainout control system" is available.

This is what they have at the bottom of the product page for the one at your link, the rainout control:

"The Hybernite is not compatible with machine lines that use a smaller diameter (15mm) hose such as the S9 series by ResMed and the 60 Series by Philips Respironics."

Mine is a PR1 60 series but it has the option of 22 or 15 mm hose. And the heated hose I have on their now is 22. Hopefully they'll come back and tell me it'll work okay. Do the 50 series use the same regular humidifier as the 60?

You know, I think I actually have a 50 humidifier even though I have a 60 series machine. I guess the only 60 humidifier is the one that comes with their heated hose and if you don't get that then they give you the 50? At least going by the pictures on our host's site, the only humidifier that looks like mine is the 50. I have the 50 humidifier in my signature below because there wasn't one for 60 without the heated tubing. NOW I guess I know why.

The 50 series had 2 choices of hose diameter options...I think.. it's been a long time.
For sure it had the 22 mm size hose and I want to say that I had the slim line option which was 15 mm. Back then they had the smaller diameter more flexible non heated hoses. I think Respironics even made one.

The 50 series humidifier looked pretty much like your 60 series humidifier. Lid and swivel connector pretty much the same.

I have a lid for a 60 series machine that is the "regular" lid that came on my 760. I added the heated hose upgrade kit to the 760 so changed out the lid and water chamber.
I have the hybernite 2300 in a box. Tomorrow I will go dig it out and that lid and see if it fits.

I am thinking you should be able to use the Hybernite 2300 with the setting of 22 mm. It's pretty much a 22 mm heated hose with separate heating power source. Now I do know they recommended switching to Classic mode. That I remember but I was doing that anyway so no big deal.

I would have to disturb hubby to go dig those items out right now...they are in a container sealed and stored under the bed and he's asleep right now.
I will try to remember to do it first thing in the morning.

You can upgrade your 60 series humidifier easily. I did it all by myself.
The 60 series humidifier only works with the 60 series blower. You don't have a 50 series machine with the 60 series blower..they simply won't work together.
All you need to do is change the lid..plug in a little wire thingy right inside under the lid...
Upgrade kit....need bigger power supply...80 watt instead of 60...heated hose and the lid

If you have a 60 series blower...you have a 60 series humidifier. 50 series humidifiers won't fit a 60 series blower.
Now Respironics supplied things 2 ways.
the humidifier with 60 watt power supply and no lid to connect to the heated hose electrical stuff..
or they supplied it with the 80 watt power supply, lid, heated hose, etc.

Now for those of us who got the 60 series machines without all the stuff for the heated hose...they came out with that upgrade kit...and that's what I got and it was easy to do and then you get all the wonderful integrated heated hose options regarding air temp and humidity delivery.

Just get the upgrade kit.
If your back up machine is a 50 series machine...your current 60 series humidifier won't work with it anyway.

So I have a 60 series machine with a 60 series humidifier that looks like the 50 humidifier.

I did not know about the ability to upgrade. Thank you! I'll have to think about that option as well. (I have an older machine that wouldn't work with the upgrade, just a standalone.)

And thanks so much for offering to check yours out to see if it fits!

I think you must have been writing this while I was writing my last one, because I missed this before somehow!

Anyway, I really like the upgrade idea, but I also wanted a heated hose that would work with my backup like my current heated hose does. Backup is System One 450 that someone gave me (it has a humidifier).

I looked up how to do the conversion, and it does seem extremely easy to do (as long I wouldn't break one of the lid connections while snapping them on and and off...LOL!).

Okay...dug out the Hybernite.
The paper work said to use Classic Mode when using a System One machine. This is because the other mode is a much drier mode in terms of humidity...I think anyway....I think you will want the added moisture that Classic mode offers with the Hybernite heating system.

It WILL fit on a PR S1 50 series humidifier...that is for sure.
It WILL fit on a PR S1 60 series humidifier that has NOT been upgraded for the heated hose. Reason being..it's pretty much a 50 series lid.
Once the upgraded lid is in place (60 series) for the heated hose the Hybernite won't snuggly fit into the coupling for hose because with the upgrade comes a new lid with a new type of swivel hose connector.
If there are any hose diameter choices to be made...22 would be the choice. I think all machines offer 22 as it is the standard size.

It WILL fit on a S9 humidifier.
I don't know about the latest AirSense/AirCurve machines but it would be silly to use one on the ResMeds (AirSense/curve and the S9) anyway....because you can find the ClimateLine for less money and the connections are built in and controls are better.

The Hybernite will do a good job for what it does with machines that have no other way to have a heated hose.
It has it's drawbacks...there is no thermostat....it's either on or off and when I used it I just pulled the plug each morning to turn it off. There's no on/off switch.

An integrated hose is always better is so many ways if at all possible.

My suggestion if money permits....get the upgrade kit first..take care of your primary machine first.
If you want to cover the backup machine with a stand alone heated hose....do it later.

Wow, thanks for all the super information, Pugsy, and your time! I think I agree with you, get the integrated and then cover the backup later. And even though I get a really cold nose (LOL) that can be uncomfortable without a heated hose, it's not like I can't use the backup without it for a few nights. My main machine is less than two years old, so hopefully it won't be giving me trouble anytime soon.

You're the best!

Pusgy, ended up getting the upgrade kit, and so glad I did! Easy to change out. And so great that you can change the amount of heat in the tube with this one. Thanks so much for the suggestion and advice!
