Nails & Hair Growing Longer & Stronger

Post by DreamHealer » Wed Aug 09, 2017 12:46 am

Hi there!

Long time lurker, first time posting. I will finish inputting all of my CPAP machine info in a signature shortly for those that may be curious. But for now, my question to you all is have you noticed any other side benefits when successfully starting therapy? I only started about 2 months ago. I feel more alert, but nothing else regarding more energy or less daytime sleepiness. I'm sure that will come in time. What I AM noticing is that my nails are growing like crazy and they're much stronger than they used to be. I'm used to flaky peeling nails to the point where I have to get acrylics or gel manicure to protect my nail beds. Now they're very long and I haven't had to trim them in about a month! I still shape and care for them guys, don't worry. My hair seems to be growing faster too.

What have you guys experienced? I want to celebrate the little successes along the way.

Yes, it does seem O2 is good for us at night! Jim

I am pea green with envy. My nails suck right now. They seem to go in cycles and right now they are in the paper thin I will break or tear at the least little boo boo cycle.

We gladly take any improvement in anything and count it as a victory.

The energy level thing...that's something that varies widely among people because often energy levels are tied to multiple things and it's not always tied to sleep apnea alone. Even when it is tied solely to sleep apnea it can take quite a while to notice marked improvement because the healing and improving is so gradual. This is where the "give it time" adage comes in...might as well since it's not like we have much of a choice in the matter.

Are you using SleepyHead or other software to monitor the data to make sure the therapy is optimal?

My biggest issue with the energy thing is hours of sleep...need to make sure I get almost 8 hours of decent quality sleep to have the best chance of having decent energy levels. Unfortunately I have other things that sometimes mess up those hours and I either don't get enough or it isn't decent but that's unrelated to sleep apnea. So I don't always feel the good numbers I see but I know why.

Make sure that any medications you might take don't affect energy levels with unwanted side effects.
Dig deep in your research to make sure.
My sister was experiencing fatigue and come to find out her blood pressure meds were known to cause fatigue in a small number of people...she changed her BP meds and the fatigue pretty much went away.

Hours of sleep is also very important. Quality of those hours is also very important.
There's so much more to feeling the good numbers than just getting them. The getting part is actually fairly easy...it's the feeling part that is elusive.

My nails and hair are better than before cpap--also my skin. (Age notwithstanding)
Alas, cpap has not been able to preserve/restore the lovely eyebrows of my youth--now they are just pitiful.

That sucks doesn't it? Mine are disappearing too and they used to be so thick and pretty.
Now I have to cheat and fill in with a little dark eye shadow. My mom is 85...hers are worse and I have her eyebrows...I know what mine will look like in 20 years...needing lots of eye shadow.

Everything has gone south...boobs, butt, belly, eyebrows, etc. But I suppose not as far south as they would go if planted 6 ft under. Gotta try to keeping looking at the half full glass instead of the half empty glass.

All the supplements I take must be helping, I have to mow my eyelashes down, more than I cut the grass. I have cut down the 25,000 beta carotene, once daily to every other day, hair seems to grow faster too. I think it was making my skin grow too fast, and flake. Jim
