Running machine with a dry humidifier?

Post by EdNerd » Mon Jul 24, 2017 10:05 am

I have the AirSense 10 Elite with heated humidifier.
Does anything bad happen if the tank runs dry at night?
I can find how to set the humidity level.
I can't find a temperature setting.
So does the "heated" part just come on and stay on?

Have you read the manual? Page 11.

Are you using a heated hose or non heated hose?

The plastic will stink when it gets too hot without water in the chamber.

Yes, damage is, at least theoretically, possible. Has anybody actually experienced this personally or is aware if it actually happening?

Usually, the "hot" smell starts being produced while there is still a little water in the tank.
Unless I go wash the tank before refilling it, the smell lingers on for a while.
Quite unpleasant.

Thanks to all who responded. Special thanks to LSAT for the guide link!

Looking through the guide, I can't find any warnings against running the tank empty. In fact, it says to make sure it's empty and inserted before using it on an airplane.

I would have to go through it with a much finer-toothed comb to pull out everything related to setting the temperature. And I know that stuff is in the "hidden" menu, and mine is set up as "just put the mask on and breathe". And I have the Slim Line hose, not the ClimateLineAir heated hose. So now I wonder if the heater even comes on??

Some more reading and simple testing when I have more time. I know I've run the tub very low during some nights (I can usually get two or three nights out of a fill, depending on how long I sleep and what the room environment is like), and so far nothing's gone bad.

With the slim line non heated hose you won't get a temperature option at all. That is only available with the heated hose attached.

With the slim line hose the heater to the water chamber will come on and how often depends on the setting for humidity that you choose. To test it use the preheat function available on the machine. Explained in the provider manual.
