Back on CPAP, but still fast-breathing

Post by MARrshh » Wed Jul 19, 2017 4:15 pm

Started back on my CPAP last night ("Let the battle begin!"). Been on and off of it for years now, mea culpa. I felt a lot better this morning and had a much better day. But the wife was awake a while last night and said that I was still, at one point, doing the fast/shallow breathing thing. Appearantly for close to and hour, and while I was sleeping on my side this time, instead of on my back. She said it stopped when I changed positions.

I had the UVV surgery 11 years ago, and I guess that's what enables me to "fudge" on using the CPAP; but I always have to come back to it, as I wind up sleeping 12 hours (I'm retired) and still not feeling rested. I use a Quattro AIR mask, as I tend to be a mouth-breather (allergies, asthma). My machine is set to a very "light-medium" pressure setting (can't remember the exact number), and I wonder if it should be racheted up. It's been several years since my last sleep study, but I don't know if Medicare would pay for another one even if my doctor wanted to.

Would appreciate any thoughts on the rapid respiration. I know it's not a good thing. Just hoping a few (consistant) days, weeks and months on the ol' CPAP will cure all that ails me.

Ignoring the previous poster for the moment, I suggest you do get a new study, see your pulm. and/or neuro. MDs, and then possibly consider bumping your min. pressure a bit... but finding out what it is now should definitely be done first... either with the study, or at least the free Sleepyhead software most here use now.

Exactly which brand and model machine are you using?
The newer ones report respiration rate so get the available software and see what your respiration was doing.
Hopefully you have one of the newer machines with full data.

get some posts up, you may find that more pressure helps. or you may need to move to a bpap or other machine.

and go and get a full check up, to rule out some bad things
