Backup cpap used - ears popped

Post by RonS » Sat Jul 15, 2017 9:22 pm

Last night I used my backup cpap for about an hour.
We're talking straight, old school, remstar plus tank cpap at 12cm.
I was using it in a recliner with nasal prongs.
Almost immediately, my Eustachian tubes popped open. Now I've had that happen before but a swallow or two and they close and a postural change could keep them shut.

But not last night.

It's not painful but it's noisy to hear all of the air rushing aound and it is a somewhat uncomfortable feeling...and who knows if there is any impact long term to keeping them open for hours.

So...anyone else have this issue? Whattaya do? What pressure(s) are you running?

Thanks!

I'll give it a guess, sounds like too much pressure, the pressure sensor is reading wrong ? try reducing pressure and see if it helps

I've checked the pressure by direct measurement; it measures right about 12cm.

Of course the lack of replies begs a question that never occurred to me:

Am I the only one whose ears pop on xPAP? Is it that unusual?
I do have my yearly appt with the pulmonologist in about 3 weeks, maybe an interesting question I guess

Why, is there a penalty for asking the guy who prescribes my pap therapy a question?

It happens to me, though rarely. I don't know why though.
