Question re B/P dropping

Post by suzpigott » Wed Jun 21, 2017 5:22 pm

I have been on CPAP for almost one month.
Been on B/P meds for 10 plus years and have always had pretty high pressure - 140/95 was normal for me, with the meds!

I have been taking my pressure since using CPAP every night and somewhat concerned about the rapid drop. This afternoon it was 124/69. Yesterday it was 124/74. Is something to be concerned about?

And do people really get off their B/P meds once that start using CPAP? I see the sleep doctor in 2 weeks, but just curious what anyone has to say about this.

Yes and yes! Just keep an eye on things til you see the doctor. Don't worry about the '74 - it's normal for most!

high blood pressure is a common side effect of untreated sleep apnea.

High blood pressure is indeed a symptom of Sleep Apnea. This is especially true of high blood pressure that does not respond well to medication.

However, you should continue to monitor your blood pressure and call your doctor.

I got off BP meds after several months of starting cpap, my BP was all over the chart, now normally 125/70 is a good number. Going on 6 years now. So there is hope in your future...
