OT - Reality Check

Post by Madalot » Sat Jun 17, 2017 6:33 am

This is very hard for me but I think it's time ALL of us got a dose of reality. For all our bickering, childishness, and stupidity, it's meaningless compared to the reality of this world. These three soldiers died this past week, fighting to protect our way of life and the rights that are being so callously abused by so many on the internet and IRL. It's time we all took a step back and realized how petty our behaviors can be sometimes.

My son is in this unit. I cry through the entire video, imagining my son in one of those caskets. I weep for their families and loved ones.

I'm so sorry. I know you must be beyond worried and anxious, and proud of your son. Every night I pray for the soldiers that keep us safe, which unfortunately some people just take for granted. Although my sons are not old enough to serve, as a mother myself I share in your sentiments.

Whether it's my son, your son or daughter, husband, wife, brother, sister, aunt, uncle - Army, Navy, Marines, Air force, National Guard - all of them deserve our utmost respect and gratitude for what they do to try to preserve our rights and way of life.

And when we (and I include myself in this chastise) behave so badly and inappropriately, we lessen and minimize what they are trying to do.

I will not pretend to know what you go through every day knowing your child is in harms way. You and all of the families of the men and women serving in the armed forces have my utmost respect and gratitude. My oldest child was in the military, but was discharged prior to the first gulf war. I am grateful she did not have to see combat,

I feel for you Maddie. My son was deployed for 10 months to the sand pile in the middle east and I was on tender hooks the whole time too. Prayers and happy thoughts going to all the military men and women that keep our countries safe. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!
Cheers and chin up

So sad for you--and for those who have lost their brothers in arms;
--and so grateful for the courage that keeps them working for what we all hold dear.

In case I inadvertently mislead, my son was NOT killed. But these men WERE from his unit. And a major part of my heartache is how the news reported TWO deaths, so casually, not even bothering to check/report that a third died as well.

I love this forum and so appreciate what it did for me. I will always appreciate that. But the behavior of some here is reprehensible and when I think about soldiers being killed to protect our way of life and people act like this? Makes me sick.

Thinking about you and your family. I can't fathom what you deal with every day.

Thank you to all who work so hard to keep us safe.

I understood that your son was spared, but soldiers carry the burden of surviving while a buddy is lost.
A colleague of mine lost a member of his unit in Iraq.
He said it was like losing a brother--but you cannot mourn until everyone else is SAFE.

Madalot,

My heart goes out to all the people in your son's unit: It's hard to lose your colleagues like that.

And I do hope and pray the your son and all the rest of his unit return safe and sound at the end of their deployment.
