Windows 10 updated, now I can't use SleepHead
Windows 10 updated, now I can't use SleepHead
.
After exiting the Sleepy Head program (and all the others) I allowed Windows 10 to update itself. Now I can't import my data because it can't find the directory. The version I'm using is SleepyHead v0.9.8-1 (testing).
Questions:
1- Should I simply reinstall an updated version?
2- What's the name of the file that has my SD card's information?
3- Any other pointers should be known if updating is the solution?
Thank!

There is a folder in your documents section labeled "SleepyHeadData-Testing". Your sleepyhead data is stored there. I would recommend you download the latest version of sleepyhead.

welcome to the wonderful world of windoze
i never let them update anything because it is way too risky
if you have to do it then back up all your data and do a complete disk backup as well as create a restore point first
if it just cant find a directory that should not need a new dl and reinstall
but you may want to do that anyway
first do a search for the directory
if you can find it then you just need to point the program to it
or move the directory to where it is looking for it

Thanks. That may be the easiest. Does it SH requiring uninstalling first? Where's a safe place to download the new version?Okie bipap wrote:There is a folder in your documents section labeled "SleepyHeadData-Testing". Your sleepyhead data is stored there. Follow the link here for latest version.
https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead
I think it is recommended that you remove the prior version but I didn't and nothing seems the worse for it.

Hi. I found two versions with similar names and they're in different Sleep Head folders. I assume I copy both even they they're over a megabyte?Okie bipap wrote:There is a folder in your documents section labeled "SleepyHeadData-Testing". Your sleepyhead data is stored there. If the data is lost on my computer, is it still on the SD card? Thanks!

SleepyHead doesn't look for the folders within itself when it downloads the data from the SD card.
Instead it needs to look in the drive letter for where the SD card is sitting and it looks for the main overall folder.
Are you navigating your download to the drive letter where the SD card is sitting?
Exactly what is the message you are seeing.

Re: Windows 10 updated, now I can't use SleepHead
one of the issues with "Win 10" is in most cases you have no choice about the updates and how they're applied. That was and still is a major issue with me when it comes to moving from Win 7 to Win 10. I work as a tech and I've had multiple issues were I've had to work on a client's computer that was updated by win 10 that broke something and I had to fix it by removing win 10 drivers and reinstalling the correct drivers that were overwritten by an update.
Example. Win10 installed an update that replaced the apple driver for a clients iPhone. All the sudden they couldn't import pictures or work properly with their phone. Windows being so smart decided for the customer that they knew how to write drivers for an apple product better then apple did. So their driver displaced the apple driver. To fix the issue I had to remove the win10 driver and reinstall the apple driver.
I think that everyone should keep their computers updated. Patches and fixes should be applied as quickly as possible. But graphics drivers and other device drivers should not be forced on the OS user. There plenty of examples of Microsoft forcing driver updates that messed up and bricked the computer that had the update applied to it.
I would download the latest version of Sleepyhead and look to the file folder you were directed to for the data.
Good luck with your computer.

Thanks very much! I think it's installed now *and* transferred all the old data with it. Great program and a life saver to most of us, as is this website!
