Since no one has responded (42 views) I'm gonna guess that no one has. You don't say where you are buying or for how much but if it is price like google shows me ($329) thats why no one is using it.

You can buy an overpriced resmed dc cable to run off any 12V battery which should be much more affordable and should last many times longer than the pilot 24 which you would need a DC cable for anyway.

Spend some time searching this forum for camping and battery to find some of the many discussions about camping with a cpap.

I use the Freedom Travel Battery with my Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset for camping trips. If I'm careful with the settings (no heat, no humidity, straight CPAP mode, no EPR) I can get two nights per charge.

I also am able to get two nights out of mine with the settings set similar to above.

I love mine for power outages.

I just sleep in the boat, 4 deep cycle batteries.

As you can see there are several happy users of the pilot 24. It seems to be well made and the fact that it is designed to feed the ResMed devices directly is a big plus since it presumably obviates the need for the $85 DC converter. On the other had, it only has 98 Watt-hours (the FAA limit) so its only good for two nights. This is equivalent to 8 Amp-hours at 12 volts. If the light weight of lithium means a lot to you, then it might be worth the rather high price. BTW, the are other lithium packs for half the price that have been used with success.

The alternative is a lead-acid based solution: a 35 Amp-hour battery (4 times the useful power) is only $65, include a quality charge and the Resmed 24V converter and a few cables and you're still under $200. And the same setup can be used with different batteries, from 7 to 100 Amp-hours. Of course, 24 pounds is rather heavy for airline travel or mountain climbing, but for car camping ir might be just the thing. Only you can decide.

Much info at the link in my signature.

I use a 100+ amp hour deep cycle marine battery for my back up and for "Car Camping" the battery weights a ton so I keep it in the back of the car and have a 50' extension cable that lets me run it to my tent. The battery and charger and battery box and accessories cost me well under 300 dollars when it was all said and done.

If weight is critical then going with the more expensive unit or something using the same technology is the way to go. But if weight is not a factor I would seriously consider going with a different type of battery with more capacity and considerable cost savings as others have pointed out. Make sure you get a nice little battery box to contain what ever you build.

Good luck with your trip!

Just want to toss this in here, 12VDC to 24VDC converters are available cheaper than $80 if you are building your own

One problem is that the ResMed has a proprietary plug with some minor circuitry that allows the pump to determine its power. There have been thread exploring how to duplicate this, but nothing definitive has been posted. These devices are certainly not "drop in replacements" for the Resmed converter. I'm sure that some folks would enjoy pursuing this for the joy of beating the system, but for most the real thing would be reassuring.

To the original poster, I didn't answer the second half of your question. Even though what I bought was a different brand than you're asking about, yes, it was definitely worth the money.

The Freedom battery plus converter and all plugs/cables was about $325. Since I have no understanding of batteries and things electrical (other than how to use them), the purchase brought me peace of mind that I was getting something that would work properly, that I wouldn't risk electrocuting myself, and that I'd save tons of hours of researching exactly what parts to buy and how to put them together.
