Has anyone switched from a PilairoQ to Brevida ...

Post by aspen » Thu Jun 15, 2017 6:45 am

nasal pillow mask?

My first mask was a nasal mask and I hated it. Okay in the store but if I tossed and turned it hurt me and it was so noisy.

I finally went in and tried ALL the nasal pillow masks. The PilairoQ was by far the best. I do get sores from it occasionally.

Happened upon a Fisher Paykel display at a pharmacy recently, and was intrigued the Brevida. The sales person demonstrated why the placement of the nasal openings will be less likely to cause these sores. He uses CPAP himself, has a similar nose to mine and noticed a difference. The nasal openings are set slightly farther apart, are a bit differently shaped, and the pillow more balanced, so they were able to drop the side wings that the pilairoQ has (which apparently was a last minute addition when the mask would not stay stable without them during the design process).

I'm just wondering if any of you have switched, and what your experience was?

Thank you!

Edited to add: Just read a review and there is one improvement -- the nasal pillow clips in, so it won't shift at night.

While the mask I switched from was not the PilairoQ - it was the ResMed P10 - I have noticed some critical improvements using the Brevida. This is especially true in regard to comfort. Specifically:
1) No more sore nose - I used to regularly need to apply lansinoh to minimize, not since changing over in January.
2) Strap tension less problematical - the wings seem to do an admirable job of stabilizing the pillows so the mask can work well with less tension in the straps.
3) Somewhat quieter - the diffuser works very well in minimizing expiration noise - the P10 is by no means noisy, but I think Brevida is a bit quieter.

Sorry I missed this. Just searched the question to bring it up top. I'm going to look at switching in September.

The PilairoQ is quiet so that will not be an improvement, but I'm hoping the sore nose issue improves. I finally bought some of the lansinoh .

Thanks for your input. Anyone else?

I didn't switch, but I use the Brevida (after testing about 6 other types) and really, really like it. It's really soft and comfortable, and has enough 'squish' that it doesn't get displaced if I move on my pillow or something. I can wear it quite loosely, and it's very effective - I have 99% to 100% mask fit every night. I bought a spare to have as an emergency backup, and I'm pretty sure I'll buy a case of them if I ever hear they're being discontinued.
I'm a newbie. If I do something stupid, just let me know and I'll try to fix it.

Sounds promising! I've set up an appointment to give one a try tomorrow, thanks!

I second above responders. Really like the brevida pillow - so soft and maliable and yet never shifts when I lie on my side. Been switching back and forth between that and the Dreamwear gel pillows. Both nice but different. I just get tired of one after a couple of months and then switch to the other.

Brevida - plus: is soft, comfy and minimal head gear ( and stays in place). Also very nice diffuser. Very minimalistic and it works!
Small negative is that even though I use a hose hanger, I don't like the hose coming off the front, but isn't a real problem

Dreamwear - plus is: also comfortable but not quite as soft ( but never a sore nostril like I sometimes got with the P10) and doesn't shift when I lie on my side. Big plus is the hose comes off the top on my head.
Negative is that for the hose to come off the top of my head it needs more head gear and I need to anchor the lower strap to my cervical collar or it rides up. Also since the exhaust isn't diffused - it is more noticable. But nice in the hot weather!
