New Research on Sleep Apnea

Post by DeeCPAP » Fri Jun 09, 2017 6:11 pm

It sometimes takes years for medical information to filter down from research doctors, so this is a heads up:

Science News
Regulating Gasotransmitters Could Improve Care for Sleep Apnea

January 23, 2017
University of Chicago Medical Center
Summary:
Unbalanced signaling by two molecules that regulate breathing leads to sleep apnea in mice and rats. Injection of a substance that reduces production of one of those signals can prevent apneas. This approach may help people suffering from multiple forms of sleep-disordered breathing.

Obstructive apnea---not likely; simply does not make sense.
Some central apnea: maybe.

i have seen similar ideas in the literature

the hardware makers wont want a simple pill that cures apnea though
they will fight it and try to block it
If that happens, think there'll be a lawsuit? (Seems money trumps health these days). Or will advertising and
word of mouth win? People with computers (and vocal cords) have a lot of power these days, too, as we've
seen in the political arena.

First you must take a shot to genetically turn you into a mouse or a rat, then change your diet, get some fleas. If mice and rats are so bothered by sleep apnea, how do they find so much time to breed? I guess they don't work or pay taxes, that would save time. Jim

Here's hoping the false hopes you are carrying do not interfere with good CPAP therapy.

Theory is the empty chalice of the over-educated, egotist who has no original, useful ideas, or ambition to do honest research.

I'd agree except i'd go for under-educated, they may have had the schooling, it doesn't mean they were awake, not stoned, or their teachers were in any better shape. Maybe they just had untreated Sleep Apnea. Jim

That sounds exciting. What have you fomented lately, now that you're breathing well in your sleep?

True, some research is BS, but some not. Did you know your brain eats itself when you're sleep deprived? Don't believe it? The researchers who discovered it won the Nobel Prize. There's no higher prize for scientists! Check out this link. (I verified it with a research physician I know.) Actually, this info should have its own thread. Important medical information filters down too slowly. Your doctors may not even know this. The information is too new. I posted this before, but it's worth posting again for those who missed it.

Yes, didn't Al Gore and Obama get one of those, kind of cuts down the worth! I may be wrong, as I don't give a Rat's _ss about either one of them or Nobel either, other than I used a lot's of his explosives. Jim
