Erratic bursts of air

Post by Morningglory » Wed May 31, 2017 7:40 am

I was woken in the night, and when I tried to go back to sleep, my cpap wasn't working properly. Instead of the nice, gentle airflow it starts out with, it started out with big erratic bursts of air and also some very long blasts of air. I cleaned the mask and the tubing. I have recently replaced the air filter. I also tried detaching and reattaching the tubing several times. What could be causing this? What other things can I try to fix it? Thank you!

Which make/model cpap do you have?
Is it possible you were holding your breath as you drifted back to sleep?

Sounds like leak in the system, either the mask, hose of humidifier. Assuming it is a CPAP, APAP, or BiPAP, it is not designed to let out blasts of air unless it is trying to maintain pressure. If there are no leaks, there is nowhere for air to blast to.

I forgot to mention that they lowered my pressure yesterday. I don't see how that could have caused this but it still seemed worth mentioning.

I tried it several times and had the same results, so I'm pretty sure I wasn't holding my breath.

I have more cushions on hand, though not more tubing. I can try switching out the cushion and seeing if that helps.

Disconnect the tubing from the machine and block the air outlet. Listen to the blower to hear if it's pulsing. Water on the sensors can cause this issue along with them being damaged or out of calibration.

Also if you got ERP or flex+, turn them off and see what happens.
