Re: Respironics BiPAP Auto SV Advantage question.
1. I use Encore Pro 1.8.65 and my Advantage won't talk to it. Any suggestions? My SV still talks to it just fine. 2. My wife woke me up with the Advantage running from low "rpm" to high "rpm", then back down. Low rpm to high rpm. I wanted to check my Smart Card but could not read it. Any suggestion...

Re: hyperventalation?
What would cause someone using a VPAP to breathe very rapidly as though they are hyperventalating. My husband is using a ResMed VPap S with the humidifier set at 1 and a Mirage Quatro mask. The mask does not leak (it's new) and everything else seem to be OK. This doesn't go on all night, he just ha...

Re: Old vs New ResMed Adapt ASV
For my old friends, hello after a long absence. Has anyone done a detailed comparison of the original ResMed Adapt ASV and the new S9 Adapt? Although they are reportedly equivalent, there must be some subtle differences. I have had the S9 Adapt for about 4 days, after using the old machine since it...

Re: The Truth Wears Off
Aha, You must all be talking about the IPCC publishing papers on climate change. There must be story here about the IPCC's eroding facts in support of Mann's 'Hockey Stick' tipping point theory about CO2 levels reaching a 'meltdown level' Hmmmm while on the topic, I wonder if the IPCC has been confu...

Re: How do I tweak my Resmed s9 Adapt SV Settings?
My Asv ramps up pressure to about 23 CMH20 at times . This makes mask leaks difficult to manage. Looking at settings, it seems about the only settings are Epap = 8, Max pressure support = 15 and minimum pressure support = 3. Although its a VPAP, I don't see a setting for Ipap. Actually that looks l...

Re: Straight cpap vs. auto
I like an APAP since it adjusts to events. If I have been drinking I need more air than normal. If I add or lose body weight it could change my pressure. My sleep study put me at 13 CM but my APAP has me at 0.6 AHI on only 11.4 CM. There is no reason I need 13 CM. The two nights I spent at the slee...

Re: CPAP the next generation
Archangle, Always a good topic this one For me, it would be even better algorithms that get to be ever so accurate at picking likelihood of a central vs obstructive event. Perhaps the built in computers can profile the sleeper and build up a predictable set of patterns that could allow more accurate...

Re: GERD, Allergies and Apnea - Are they related?
My Dr (s)said the GERD was a significant contributor to SDB. The Gerd symptoms had been creeping up on me for years (over 20 ago) before SDB symptoms became obvious. Worst case too was Dr(s) expressing the opinion that it was considered largely irreversible (at my age) & to stick with the GERD meds....

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?
How does it work? I understand how a regular CPAP machine works: it blows pressurized air past the obstruction and breathing resumes. I don't understand the mechanism of the ASV. If my brain doesn't send a signal to breath how does the machine start my lungs pumping again? I would like to add to Jo...

Re: Frustrated with Vpap AdaptSV
My frustration is that I don't feel like I'm sleeping well, and I'm suffering from aerophagia. I wake up 3 or 4 times each night with serious stomach bloat. I don't know if I'm not sleeping well because of apneas or because of the aerophagia. I've lost almost 30 pounds since my last sleep study (my...

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?
This Resmed diag confirms what I have long believed (& obtained from running pressure sensing tests). It is from the Resmed tech spec PDF linked to in an earlier post. It shows 3 pressure increases from the moment the machine decides to respond to an event. It also shows roughly 3 pressure drops bac...

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?
This link offers some more technical insights but is still referring to the older 'tank' & 'egg' models from Resp & Resmed. http://www.lakesidepress.com/CPAP/ASV.htm Note also they say the Bipap AutoSV targets 95% of Av Peak Flow & I'll defer to that figure. My recall of 90% may relate to the Resmed...

Re: ASV: HOW DOES IT WORK?
dsm, Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately, you can do it all over again because the original poster has a Resmed Vpap, not the Respironics version Actually, one of you with a Resmed ASV can help me here (if you have the new model - I already use the old Resmed unit). Can anyone look at the nig...
